[Chill/Dance/Disco] Wunder Wunder – Coastline (Goldroom Remix)

Wunder Wunder
Coastline (Goldroom Remix)

One of our absolute favorite electronic artists, and the choice purveyor of laid back, dancey and sunny musical vibes, Goldroom, has graced this writer’s snowy mid-May afternoon with a stirring remix of upstart L.A. based Aussies Wunder Wunder and their debut single “Coastline”. While we can only describe the original tune  as a poppy, synth soaked jaunt bubbling over onto a psychoactive sonic infrastructure, Goldroom wraps an increasingly familiar chunky, but pop-accessible bass line all around its foundation while penetrating the original emotive intent completely to shape “Coastline” into a track all their own. Frontman Josh Legg simply wrote about this remix earlier: “This one is pure escape. Let it take you away.” , which is just about as good as we could have said it. Goldroom’s remix comes as their contribution on an impending EP from Wunder Wunder, Coastline Remixed, which is due out on May 20 and also features versions of “Coastline” from TMN favorites Gigamesh, Chad Valley and more. Why not let this one wrap up your Monday evening with a neat little bow, and for our friends around the U.S. check out the group’s next few stateside tour dates through August.

[Nu-Disco] Pharrell ft. Justin Timberlake – Brand New (Slinger Remix)

Pharrell
Brand New (Slinger Remix)

There is something almost symbiotic about the relationship between disco dance vibes and Mondays. One pulls its listener into visions of happy, sunshine soaked dance floors while the other is slightly more bleak in its undertone, pulling your psyche into a paradoxical direction altogether. Yin and Yang. Sweet and salty. Balance. Which, not to wax philosophically for much longer, is why we love to pair glitzy club tunes with the most dreaded day of the week. Today, the mysterious Slinger popped up with a very driven and elegant slice of disco induced house rhythms that commanded the undivided attention of our cochlear cavities from its onset. Remixing two of the most influential artists of our time can be an arduous task, but Slinger’s slinky kicks and pointed nu-disco percussion paired with the unmistakable and altogether dreamy vocal reverberations of Pharrell and Justin Timberlake has resulted in quite the hooky dance tune in the form of a syrupy Summer nu-disco remix. The vibe painted onto “Brand New” by Slinger is one of high energy poolside day parties, which I think we could all be yearning for right about now. Slinger is most certainly an act to keep your ears tuned into, and you can bet that ours will be too. Check it out above.

[Indie Dance/Nu-Disco] Miami Horror – Real Slow (Tropicool Remix)

Miami Horror
Real Slow (Tropicool Remix)

LA based house and disco slanger Tropicool, who is known primarily for his impressive output of eclectic mixtapes, has dipped his toes into the remix pond, much to our delight, authoring quite the groovy club edit of Miami Horror’s dance-poppy single “Real Slow”. A pulsing bass line fuels Tropicool’s deep disco take on the track while the tune’s original vocals spring along quite harmoniously over a glossy dose of synth work, and a funk inspired chord progression. We were immediately hooked into Tropicool’s huge slinky groove, and for our house, dance and club crowd we think you’ll have a tough time avoiding the same fate. This one can be snagged for free as a digital copy over on his official Facebook so do yourself a solid and snag one; and with the man playing Snowball Music Festival this weekend in Denver , we’ll soon hopefully be hearing it rinsed live amongst a sweaty sea of festival dancers.

[House] Chromeo ft. Toro Y Moi – Come Alive (Le Youth Remix)

Chromeo
Come Alive (Le Youth Remix)

There’s absolutely no denying the immense pop power of Chromeo and Toro Y Moi‘s latest collusion “Come Alive”, which is without a doubt one of the catchiest and alluring tunes in everyone’s stream of consciousness at the moment, and to think any more energy could be symbiotically added on top was pretty far fetched before today. Enter Le Youth. The enigmatic L.A. based House and Nu-Disco producer – who by the way throws down some of the funnest live sets going on in the house clubs right now – impels a heavy dose of vigorous hi-hat shuffle, and four-four kick to bring both Dave1 and Chaz Bundick’s unmistakable vocals straight into the dance hall. Our real sense of enjoyment on Le Youth’s remix however was an impeccable employment of that tried and true classic house piano a la Marshall Jefferson that was made so famous all the way back in ’86, giving off a vibrant shine while adding another layer of depth to the entire movement. It’s early, but we assume more producers will take a crack at reassembling “Come Alive”, but for us right now, Le Youth takes the cake.

[House] Tensnake – Love Sublime (Duke Dumont Remix)

Tensnake
Love Sublime (Duke Dumont Remix)

As German disco and house producer Tensnake readies a debut LP, Glow, set for a March 3 release, he’s teased legions of fans by dropping a few singles including “Love Sublime”; the latest jewel off of the impending album. U.K. house superstar Duke Dumont, who is coming off of one of the strongest 2013’s of any artist, has taken Tensnake’s brand of  downtempo Nu-Disco and turned “Love Sublime” into a dance floor smasher. Whereas the original radiates a sunny disposition, Dumont pumps the right amount of murkiness onto the tune while simultaneously gearing it straight towards a peak hour crowd. Stabbing piano chords overlay a punchy drum kick groove while the vocal plays out much more expansive and intimidating than on Tensnake’s original, creating a feeling only the Duke could mold a previous track into. This one is definitely worth a listen this Thursday for our dance fans, check it out above.

[French-House/Nu-Disco/Synth-Pop] Vallès – St. Lucia EP

Vallès, a 21 year old French House savant working out of Ibiza, was the latest apple of TMN’s eye, largely behind the release of perhaps one of the most musically mature and texturized pop-leaning debuts we had had the chance to wrap our ears around in some time, with his St. Lucia EP.  St. Lucia is the first collection of originals from the young disco maestro, but a knack for funky high-energy samples paired with toned down, groovy bass lines has already blueprinted his deft French Touch sound. St. Lucia functions closely within most of these parameters, leading off with the incredibly emotive pacesetter, “Heartbeat”, which clearly touches on Vallès’ cited influences of Daft Punk Discovery era 90’s French-House and the almighty 70’s funk wave in which held the distinguished spot as America’s leading dance genre at the time. St. Lucia‘s sophomore entry, the single for which the extended play was named, is a breezy synth-pop track, drenching its listener in neon, 80’s dance  tones. Once our complete psyche was enveloped by “Heartbeat” and “St. Lucia”, Vallès slows things up a bit to let the rest of the album breathe, utilizing the downtempo electronic backbone of “Farewell” to iron out the whole movement to a brisk stride. If we haven’t gushed enough already, just let us leave you with the fact that we absolutely believe that St. Lucia  is one of the most worthy individual electronic listening album efforts within the last five years.

Furthermore, as St. Lucia was released today via Neonized Records, we were gifted with three additional featured remixes from talented artists L’Étranger, and Cosmonaut Grechko, so there should be a little slice of Vallès appropriate for any number of eclectic ninja listeners. Listen to Vallès’ St. Lucia EP below.

[Nu-Disco/Synth-Pop] The Golden Pony ft. Suntalk- Bonfire

The Golden Pony
Bonfire Feat. Suntalk

It’s been a little while since we checked in with one of our favorite tastemaking Deep Disco outfits, The Golden Pony, and in between their time hustling as some of NYC’s most influential electronic promoters, they’ve managed to issue a follow up to their debut original “Tiny Purple Fishes” with a house meets disco groover “Bonfire”. Featuring another NYC band Suntalk on vocals, “Bonfire” beautifully flits between the electronic indie dance output of camps like Future Classic and 4AD and straightforward nu-disko and house music structures. While TGP has made their name mostly by reaching into the remix cookie jar, their original tunes have been the hook which keeps us ninjas coming back for more. “Bonfire” paces itself briefly, starting off slow and steady, before bouncing in cheeky vocals and an appropriately addictive, simple bass line. This one pulled from us an immediate smile, and music which exhibits this quality has always been some of our favorite. Grab the free download here in exchange for a ‘heart’ on Hype Machine.
