While living in Portland, the unofficial American home of counterculture, Daniel Vidmar made his big splash in 2013. How so? In countering the counterculture of course. While his Portland contemporaries rose to fame on the back of a very particular type of sound – bands like The Decemberists, Blitzen Trapper, The Dandy Warhols, She & Him, Starfucker, Ages & Ages, Langhorne Slim, and The Shins – Vidmar took to his bedroom and set out to break the trend. After giving us a taster of the upcoming Italians Do It Better compilation with “Looking For Love”, Chromatics return with the next single to be featured on the triple LP. “Cherry” sees the Portland-based outfit wrapping an infectious guitar hook around hazy layers of synth and seductive vocals to produce a slick slice of synth-pop perfection.

[Remix] Kanye West x Chromatics – Lady High (Carlos Serrano Mix)

San Diego based producer/mash-up artist Carlos Serrano blessed us a few days ago with an awesome take on Kanye West‘s “Get ‘ Em High,” featuring the Chromatic‘s “Lady” as the backdrop. Using the remix-friendly throwback Yeezy vocals, Serrano manages to completely transform the feel of the original with the steadily climbing instrumental and beautiful chorus of the Chromatic’s Ruth Radelet.
