Sunday Night Soul [Vol. 4]

It’s the first weekend of December, meaning I, like most of you out there, spent my Sunday stuck inside watching the snowflakes gently trickle down to the ground. Being trapped indoors isn’t always a bad thing however. At least you now have an excuse to huddle around the fireplace as you listen to the latest edition of Sunday Night Soul (if you don’t have a fireplace, a space heater will have to do). This edition is packed further to the brim than that mug of piping hot cocoa you’re gripping onto right now, with tasty selections from some of the most talented singers from across the web. It’s hard to pick a favorite from this crop, but I’d like to point your attention to offerings from newcomers Snoh Aalegra, Rosie LoweDrew Love, and SPZRKT. Of course we have to recognize budding series regulars Raleigh RitchieTev’n, and Tei Shi, as well as TMN favorites Childish GambinoJhené Aiko, Bondax, and Sebastian Mikael. If that stellar lineup alone doesn’t give it away, we’re rather confident that you’ll leave tonight’s presentation well satisfied.

Relations Featuring Childish Gambino

Childish Gambino has been all over the place lately as he prepares for the release of his upcoming album, Because The Internet. This time he teams up with Kenna, hopping on the remix of his recent single, “Relations.” You know Bino knows a thing or two about relationships, which is exactly why he fits right in with the kooky 80’s inspired atmosphere, complimenting the funky vibes with some bold punchlines and hilarious ad-libs. Check out the single above, and stay on the lookout for Childish’s next project, set to drop next month.

[Sexy] Kenna – Love Is Still Alive

Love Is Still Alive

I’m going to call this artist a jack of all trades because that is exactly what he is.
Today, Kenna has released his EP ‘Imitation is Suicide: 9 of Hearts’ which is available on Soundcloud and Itunes. The three-part release of Kenna’s is in the second stage, the heartbreak chapter of the series. “This chapter of Imitation [Is Suicide] is the heartbreak chapter of the series. Everybody goes through it and inevitably you realize that love continues to exist like atoms and energy,” Kenna said. “This is one of my favorite songs because it’s a reminder that there is always something to live for.” The entire release is inspired by Ralph-Waldo Emerson’s ‘Self-Reliance’ essay and please tell me you recognize the inspiration behind his artwork? Kenna’s voice is so smooth and his lyrics are simple mixed in with seducing drumbeats to feel the love that Kenna keeps claiming is still alive, and with his hypnotizing voice, you will believe in that love too.
