[Indie/Pop] Peter Bjorn and John – High Up (Take Me To The Top)

Peter Bjorn and John
High Up (Take Me To The Top)

“Over the moon” is how indie pop masters Peter Bjorn and John said they felt releasing their first new original material since Gimme Some came out four long years ago, and that’s exactly where ‘High Up (Take Me To The Top)’ will bring you as well.

This soaring tune is propelled by off-kilter percussion reminiscent of their 2009 LP Living Thing, but is perhaps a sign of things to come as it stemmed from “forthcoming album-sessions” co-written with Patrick Berger, who is best known for producing artists including Robyn and Icona Pop.

‘High Up’ has been released on the Stockholm-based artist collective and record label INGRID, which Peter Bjorn and John co-founded along with fellow Swedes Lykke Li and Miike Snow, among others, and the track is featured on INGRID Volym 2, a Record Store Day exclusive double-LP of which there are only 500 copies.

[Remix] Lykke Li – No Rest For The Wicked (Feat. A$AP Rocky)

Lykke Li ft. ASAP Rocky
No Rest For The Wicked (Remix)

Subscribers to Beats Music were treated to a pleasant surprise earlier today, when Lykke Li decided to stream the remix of her single, “No Rest For The Wicked,” exclusively through the audio service. This is the internet though, and nothing stays exclusive for very long. Within hours, fans who previously felt left out, could now hear the glorious pairing that is A$AP Rocky and Lykke Li. For Rocky, it’s the latest in a string of heart-stirring pop collaborations that already includes previous team ups with GesaffelsteinJessie Ware and Florence Welch. By adding a little street flair to the already astonishing single, the Harlem native makes the song more accessible to a wider audience, without hurting its overall message.

Check out the stream above, and make sure to pre-order Lykke Li’s upcoming album, I Never Learn, before it hits shelves stateside on May 6th.

[NEW] Lykke Li – Gunshot

Gunshot

In the spirit of Sweden, churning out the tunes, Lykke Li returns with another preview taken from forthcoming album, I Never Learn, set for release via LL/Atlantic Records on May 5th.

A long way from subtle symptoms of sadness, Lykke Li puts her heart where her mouth is; aligning nauseating melancholia with raw euphoria. Anguish overlaying a granular and chalky piano piece: “Gunshot” is lifted by its emotionally honest and variable vocal, echoing the vigorous yearning expressed circa 2011 track “Jerome.” Surprisingly, this version of desolation is dressed in danceable vibes, accompanied by a beat last spotted in 80’s power ballad rapture.

Existing alongside the energy is the sound of regretful affliction. Its pop sentiment subsiding to the poignant sing of ‘wide awake, while you’re not here’ and ‘I really loved you bad’ to the resonating sound of love lost, in the simplistic sentiment, ‘I’ll never get you back’.

The soundscape to your longing, “Gunshot” will open old wounds, and etch it’s meaning on anyone harbouring regretful and remorseful heart break.

No Rest For The Wicked

“… I, I follow, I follow you, deep sea baby, I follow you…”

Sound familiar? With the innumerable remixes and covers for “I Follow Rivers” these past few years, it’s hard to remember that it’s been a long 36 months since we were enthralled by a honey of an artist, Lykke Li. The 28 year old Swedish beauty and singer introduced the first piece of her three-part work in 2008 with Youth Novels, followed by her second album, Wounded Rhymes back in 2011. She now returns with the new-fangled single, “No Rest for the Wicked” off her upcoming third studio album, I Never Learn. The track induces a deep cinematic vibe, leaving us to wonder and yearn for the story she will croon to conclude her trilogy, which began with her first two albums nearly six years ago.

We’ll learn the ending to her tale when I Never Learn drops in North America this coming May 6th. Meanwhile, we can piece together 2 of the 9 fragments.

Watch the release of the painstakingly exquisite video, “Love Me Like I’m Not Made of Stone”, and follow up with the lead single “No Rest for the Wicked.”
