Watch Performances From Last Night’s 56th Annual Grammy Awards

Let’s face it: the Grammy’s blow. They’re a total misrepresentation of the actual trends happening in music, and are usually at least two to three steps behind the curve. The Recording Academy is out of touch with the culture, and while the awards still have some meaning to them, the show lacks the same significance it had in previous generations. With that mini rant out of the way, I would like to congratulate all of last night’s winners, and don’t want to take anything away from the artists themselves or any of their accomplishments. What we are here to do today is highlight one of the positive aspects of the show: the performances. From 33 couples getting married during Macklemore & Ryan Lewis‘ rendition of “Same Love,” Kendrick Lamar‘s frenetic display during an insane mashup of “M.A.A.D. City” and “Radioactive” with Imagine Dragons, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr re-uniting as one half of The Beatles, and finally to Jay-Z and Beyoncé giving us a glimpse into their chemistry together on stage, this year’s awards had plenty to offer in terms of entertainment value. Check out some of the best ones below, and let us know your thoughts on which one was your favorite.

Daft Punk, Pharrell, Nile Rodgers & Stevie Wonder

[Funky Fresh] Sam Smith, Nile Rodgers, Disclosure & Jimmy Napes – Together

Sam Smith x Nile Rodgers x Disclosure x Jimmy Napes
Together

Could there be a more appropriate title for a track that brings “Together” some of the most creative minds in music? After making a resurgence of his own earlier this year alongside Daft Punk, Nile Rodgers re-unites “Latch” collaborators Sam Smith and Disclosure for this funky new tune. Rounding out the equation is songwriter Jimmy Napes, who presumably crafted the wonderful lyrics on this groovy number for us to vibe out to. The only knock on this song is that at barely over two minutes, it’s way too short. This is apparently the product of a one day studio session between this eclectic group of artists, but let’s hope this is just a taste of what they have in store for us.

Get Lucky (feat. Pharrell & Nile Rodgers) (Radio Edit)

The endless tease that has surrounded Daft Punk for years is finally coming to a halt today, as we get what appears to be the first single from their ridiculously anticipated upcoming album. For anyone who was at Coachella, “Get Lucky” was the song being previewed all weekend in between sets. The Pharrell and Nile Rodgers assisted track, albeit a slightly shorter radio edit, does not disappoint delivering that infectious funk that the French duo are known for. Happy Daft Punk day to all the ninjas out there! Random Access Memories drops May 21st. Get funky y’all.

UPDATE: Updated with the official CDQ version. “Get Lucky” is available for purchase on iTunes now.
