[NEW] Kid Cudi – Hero (Feat. Skylar Grey)

Kid Cudi
Hero (feat. Skylar Grey) [NFS Soundtrack]

The man on the moon has been keeping busy lately. Aside from an impromptu album release just a few weeks ago, Kid Cudi will be in the upcoming video game-based Need for Speed film with Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul and recently anded the role of Ari Gold’s assistant in HBO’s Entourage film. Naturally, Cudder also was given a song on the NFS soundtrack which surfaced earlier this evening.

“Hero” features some accompaniment from Skylar Grey, but certainly falls in line with the cinematic feel of Cudi’s music as of late. Over atmospheric and building production, the Cleveland emcee delivers his unique, dark lyricism in a way that only he knows how. Grey’s vocals come in a bit later and actually work surprisingly well in a unique collaboration. Enjoy this one above and grab a free download through the Google Play store.

[Hip-Hop] Slaughterhouse – Goodbye ft. Skylar Grey (Prod. Boi-1da)

With an all-star line up including Royce Da 5’9″, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, and Crooked I, Slaughterhouse is bringing its A-game once again. The Shady Records supergroup goes in over a hard-hitting piano with a melodic chorus by the beautiful Skylar Grey. Talking about their own experiences with death, each member (minus Royce) channels the angst that comes with losing someone. Each verse brings a new level of pain and this emotional ballad is sure to relive emotions evoking a certain empathy from the audience.

You can stream this somber single below and head to iTunes to cop if you are feeling it. With their album Welcome to: Our House releasing August 28th,  none of their songs should be slept on, and not just because they drew from their mentor Eminem.

Kaskade feat. Skylar Grey – Room For Happiness (Gregori Klosman): An Incredible Must-Listen track

Skylar Grey does not cease to amaze us. Her powerful angelic vocals are able to pierce through tracks exposing a deeper emotional core. Paired with feather-like synths, big room house build ups and a heavy growl of a bass, you simply get a standout track that exceeds all expectations. Paris-Born producer Gregori Klosman infused Kaskade’s ‘Room For Hapiness’ with enough electro to call it his own. It is nothing like the original and ten times filthier.

[Electronic] Lupe Fiasco – Words I Never Said ft. Skylar Grey (Sound Remedy Remix)

Seems that our brains build associations with music. You hear one thing, and expect something to follow. You hear Ke$ha’s voice, and expect nausea. You hear soft buildups in a hip hop remix song, and expect a dubstep beat. Well, it’s always nice when someone does just the opposite.

When Sound Remedy’s remix opens up, I couldn’t help but think – this is going to be a wicked build up for a filthy dubstep song. Then a little mini break came. No beat. No wobble. Huh. More buildup. Okay, the beat will drop in soon – can’t wait. The beat never comes, but what follows can only be described as sheer auditory pleasure. A few minutes of blissful synth and Skylar Grey’s wavering vocals.

Sound Remedy has thrown up some great remixes (check out his James Blake track), and while this won’t get people moving on the dance floor, it was a welcome change of pace from what we’re used to.

[Hip/Hip] Lupe Fiasco – Words (Ft. Skylar Grey)

Lupe Fiasco is back, and this time his “Words” take a more political turn. In the song, Lupe flawlessly delivers his lines, and although his tracks have always been filled with meaning, “Words” touches closer to home for many people around the world. Parting from the generic hip-hop beat, Lupe lays down his tightly knit rhymes over a Glitch Mob styled electronic beat. The deep base kicks add an extra punch to his lyrics. The chorus however, is not as praise-worthy. Though it provides a catchy hook for the song, the singing is nothing new or unique, and Skylar Grey’s voice sounds overly filtered. Skylar’s choice of lyrics give the vibe of a nostalgic, regretful love song, rather than reflecting the political incentive fueling Lupe. The chorus does not add or detract from the song, and thus makes “Words” an enjoyable listen and a clear example of Lupe’s lyrical prowess.
