This week’s show was mostly a mish-mash of various Soundcloud/Bandcamp finds across genres plus a few favorite cuts from TDE’s Black Panther OST. A few other projects highlighted in this episode include stellar new EPs from Ravyn Lenae, Mija & Geotheory alongside Keinemusik‘s eclectic self-titled album. Closing out the show was a selection of left-field house cuts ranging from funky to hazy lo-fi to ethereal electro.

[NEW] Ab-Soul – Hunnid Stax (feat. ScHoolboy Q)

Hunnid Stax Ft. ScHoolboy Q

Ab-Souls long-anticipated sophomore album is set to drop in two weeks and, earlier today, the LA-based emcee unleashed a dope track featuring fellow Top Dawg Entertainment representative, Schoolboy Q“Hunnid Stax” opens with Soul stating, “people treat you real nice when you’ve got $50 draws on” before the menacing, hazy production of Kenny Beats takes a hold.

While the title suggests a stereotypical rap song about money, reminiscent of Odd Future’s recent skit, fans of Ab-Soul’s first album, Control System, will recognize the implied irony in his bars. ScHoolboy Q’s gritty vocals could not fit the beat better and Mac Miller contributes a brief chorus of sorts that helps add to the mischievous vibe. Enjoy this one above and keep an eye out for These Days…, which drops on June 24th.

Tree of Life

TDE is slowly making moves to take over the game in 2014. Following the drop of SZA‘s debut LP Z, lyricist Ab-Soul is up next to take the ranks. The West Coast emcee drops a new track for fans listening enjoyment over the weekend. The Curtiss King-produced joint, “Tree of Life,” finds the young emcee spitting some smooth bars over a chill beat about those good herbs. Just in time for 4/20, this new tune doesn’t exactly show off Soul’s lyrical prowess on the mic, but it still makes for a dope listen.

[Chill] SZA – Ice.Moon.Revisited (Feat. Ab-Soul)

SZA
Ice.Moon Revisited feat. Ab-Soul

TDE songstress SZA has been on her grind over the past month and returns to the interwebs today with a new rendition of her latest single. This time around, the beautiful singer links up with her fellow labelmate Ab-Soul for the renamed “Ice.Moon.Revisited.” The track finds both artists showing off their respective skills over a dark and menacing Felix Snow and Pat Lukens beat. Driven by heavy-hitting bass through drum work and contrasting soft bells, the two compliment the production well with their talents. This is definitely a track to sit-back and listen to if you’re looking for a mental escape. Make sure to check out the official video for the original as well below.

[NEW] AWOLNATION – Sail (Remix) (Feat. Kendrick Lamar & Ab-Soul)

AWOLNATION
Sail (Remix) ft. Kendrick Lamar & Ab-Soul

Kendrick Lamar and the Top Dawg crew really want to make sure this is an amazing week for you. After receiving the stellar remix for “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” on Monday, and ScHoolboy Q‘s awesome new track “Yay Yay” early Friday, we’ve now been blessed with a remix to AWOLNATION‘s hit single “Sail” complete with guest verses from Kendrick and Black Hippy running mate, Ab-Soul. While the remix may lack the punch of the original, it has been edited by Sounwave to make it a little bit more hip-hop friendly. Kendrick and Ab-Soul undoubtably deliver on their verses, although it can be hard to tell what they’re saying at times, considering the song’s plastered with tags from the L.A. Leakers. It looks like we’ll have to wait for the official version to drop, but in the meantime let’s enjoy what we can of it.

[New] Meek DeMeo – Hallucinogen ft Ab-Soul

Newcomer Meek DeMeo helps listeners get over that one love on his latest single “hallucinogen”. What some would drink, talk, or cry away their pain after a break-up, unsigned hype DeMeo chooses neither and would rather fry out the memory with some psychedelic drugs. Although not everyone’s best interest, the singer’s vocals give off a strong and moody vibe that is only emphasized by production from Austin Ceyala. Mixing some Weeknd-esque singing with some studio effects, atmospheric beats and synth heavy backgrounds, this track definitely gives off a wide range of trippy sounds. Throwing in a quick beatswitch, courtesy of W:ZARD, TDE signee Ab-Soul jumps on the last minute of the track for a high-energy outro. Be sure to check out the interesting single below and stay tuned for more from the R&B singer when his Capital Vices EP drops.
