The homie and master beatmaker Causmic dropped by TMN Radio this week to share selections from his debut solo album Wormholes and a few tracks that inspired it. We chopped it up about the galaxy, our mutual love of Flying Lotus and the visual influences behind ‘Wormholes.’ Building off Causmic’s otherworldly originals, we kept the instrumentals going with a wide array of experimental beats and a sprinkle of new hip-hop.

We had a couple firsts on this episode with Brian, half of DJ duo Cosmic Crates, in the studio for a live mixing sesh. Before we got into that that, I opened up playing catch up on some of my favorite new indie rock/pop releases from Jay Som, The Sufis, Frankie Cosmos, Slenderbodies and more. When Brian joins for the second half, we chop it up about the Cosmic Crates project, his experience growing up in Detroit and thoughts on the state of electronic music today. For the final hour, we had a fun live b2b mixing session sharing some deep and hazy house cuts.

Episode #96: Saturation & Soul

This week’s episode kicked off with a chilled out soul / jazz vibe that carried through out, across genres. Although there were notable Friday releases from some veterans, Brockhampton‘s Saturation III was easily the project I was the most excited for. Their third album of the year delivered possibly their most ambitious and interesting yet. I matched its title by playing 4 tracks from Saturation III. The second half of the show delved into some jazzy, off-kilter house from Frits Wentink, Ben Hauke, Kerem Akdag, O’Flynn and more. I had to close out the show with a behemoth new Nicolas Jaar track from the deluxe edition of Sirens. – ash.
