[Show Preview] DJ Muggs @ The Gothic – Denver, CO

DJ MUGGS MUSIC
NO DOUBT ! -DJ MUGGS FEATURING DANNY BROWN

Next Tuesday night, April 9, a legendary producer and DJ is bringing his amazing live show to Denver. While it won’t be on Cypress street, or up on a Hill, the show will go down at the legendary Gothic with the acclaimed LA producer DJ Muggs. For those of you who do not know Muggs, this is your chance to see a legend in action. And for those of you who have been fans since the good old days of Cypress Hills, Muggs’ one-man-show is something no one should miss. The title of the tour says it all, Bass in your Face, and if you can’t handle the drops then best stay home. Muggs, Lawrence Muggerud, got his first turntable back in 1985 so to say he is a master of his trade probably does him no justice. His experimental touch on all types of music has left fans captivated for years and as the years progress, so does his undeniable talent. It also does not hurt that the young bucks of Modestep, the crazy foursome from London, are the headlining act after Muggsie. I hope the Gothic floor doesn’t give out under all the bass.

[Hip-Hop] Danny Brown – Express Yourself (Prod. Trampy)

Danny Brown
Express Yourself (Prod. by Trampy)

We all know Danny Brown has no problems at all when it comes to expressing himself. With his newest single, he’s encouraging us all to follow suit, although this is mostly aimed at the ladies. The Detroit rapper gives credit to Diplo/Major Lazer as his primary source of inspiration for this one. For those keeping score, Diplo released an EP and single with the same name, around this time last year. Danny definitely does Diplo proud over a minimalistic, trapped-out beat from the adequately named, Trampy. It doesn’t seem like this one will make it onto Danny’s upcoming Old album, but if he’s looking for a radio-friendly single, he could do far worse.

Kush Coma

WIth his newest track, Danny Brown, reveals his preferred reason for checking into the emergency room. After expressing his excitement about the track early yesterday, Danny promised that if he got enough fan support, he’d leak the track himself, ahead of schedule. Lo and behold, the song became a trending topic within minutes, and the Detroit spitter delivered on his promise. Even in a comatose state, Danny’s energy cannot be contained, as he brings his patented dexterous and eccentric rhyme scheme to flow over some rapid, scampering synths courtesy of Skywlkr. The final version of this song is set to feature A$AP Rocky, and can be found on Danny’s upcoming album, Old, dropping later this year.

The Trap Dojo #29

Welcome to the first Trap Dojo on the revamped site. Our first track is an incredibly sexy remix of Frank Ocean‘s “Super Rich Kids”. Bird Peterson makes this song smoother than the cocoa butter you`ll be spreading on your girls back while listening to it (or visa versa). Next, Mr. Vega hits us with a ton of sharp bars from several different rappers on this vocal remix of his track “I’m Livin”. ETC. ETC. and Brillz bring you back to late 80s Harlem with their own take on the New Jack Swing. This is a track you can definitely do the (real) Harlem Shake to. If you aren’t familiar with Rustie then take note. This Scottish DJ has been huge in the UK Dubstep and Grime scene since back in 07, and this track is absolutely infectious. With this remix of Chief Keef‘s “I Don’t Like”, Willy Joy shows how he’s able to turn a hard hitting rap anthem into a dance floor banger, switching back and forth between the original instrumentals and his crazy remix, this time with a hype Moombah flip. The end of the list contains a great lovetrap mashup from Watapachi with some smooth lyrics from 50 Cent, some Keys N Krates, a trio of musicians who actually perform their songs live, a real treat in the modern EDM age, and some Future Screw, from the master of Future Screw, Trill Scott Heron.

Rather than phoning into any radio shows though, Danny demonstrates why he belongs to be mentioned amongst the top emcees with this brand new Harry Fraud-produced track.
