[NEW] SBTRKT – Hold The Line

SBTRKT
HOLD THE LINE

How’s this for a sweet Sunday surprise? Premiered by Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC’s Radio 6 earlier today, SBTRKT has revealed the very first single of a series of vinyl 12″ records to be released prior to his next album (presumably called Transitions based off of the SoundCloud tag). Not very much detail was provided beyond that, other than the fact that all of the tracks would be instrumentals, and no timeline was provided for their release. In the meantime, we can at least enjoy his latest offering, which seems to continue the trend we heard from the UK producer in late 2013. “Hold The Line” indulges the listener in rich bass lines and moody, atmospheric synths to create a truly all encompassing experience. 2014 seems primed to be a big year for SBTRKT, and we can’t wait to hear what else has in store for us in the coming months.

[Out There] Beaty Heart – Kanute’s Coming Home

BEATY HEART
Kanute's Comin' Round

Coming out of the South-London hub of Peckham, the lovingly unique psych-pop trio Beaty Heart are set to welcome in the New Year with a new single, ‘Kanute’s Comin’ Round’. Due out by way of Nusic Sounds on March 3rd, this tune is another taste from the band’s debut record ‘Mixed Blessings’, which was recorded with Dave Eringa.

The eclectic nature of this track takes you to the plains of the wild with its buzzing didgeridoo, playful guitar riffs and tribal style drums. It’s all of the place, but only in all the best ways. For a brief moment, we asked ourselves, “what the hell do we classify this as?” As soon as that thought came in our head, it left as we pressed play again, with a huge smile beaming across our faces.

[Electronica] Blackedout – Vessel

Blackedout
Vessel

Some artists have the ability to transport their listener directly into their song and frame of mind. Such is the case with ascending downtempo electronic producer Blackedout, who hit us with his latest effort “Vessel” this morning, and we had to give our ninjas a brief respite amongst the large amounts of hip-hop and electro we’ve been slanging your way this week. “Vessel” is the second tune to be leaked leading up to Blackedout’s forthcoming second EP this Spring, and if we were to call it like we see it, we would undoubtedly state that he’s pitching an emphatic perfect game thus far. This slow burning slice of synthetica builds behind rocky slabs of spacy synth work and flighty drums, producing a constantly evolving piece of music. As much of the weather stateside is dreary and snow filled, “Vessel” will slink you right down in your (hopefully) warm seat. Check it out above.

[Chill/Deep-House] Felon – Isla (Sebastian Carter Remix)

Felon
Isla (Sebastian Carter Remix)

We first had the chance to feature Sebastian Carter‘s sultry approach to house back in October on the always amazing Chill Dojo (Vol. 58), and in the time since, we’ve had the pleasure of gifting his music to our Ninja contingency multiple times, most recently with an excellent remix of Emily Underhill’s “Ghost”. Today the 19 year-old Swiss virtuoso delivered another slow-burning, eloquent and expressive remix, this time of Felon‘s hollowy synth-pop single “Isla”. Carter utilizes the fine tuning of the original’s poppier elements and disperses them evenly amongst a highly textured backdrop of lush pads, elaborate percussion and Felon’s slick vocal track. The resulting sound is certainly as methodically addictive as it is beautiful, and it more than warranted a trip down our front page today. In keeping with Seb Carter’s magnanimous music personality, this deep-house groover is being offered up by the teenage wunderkind for the online currency of one “like” on Facebook here, so go ahead and add this one to your weekly playlists.

Death By Icon – Let Loose [TMN Premiere]

Death By Icon
Let Loose

The Chicago hip-hop scene is continuously evolving, making it one of the hottest music environments in the entire country right now (even when temperatures are approaching arctic extremes). Today we’re proud to present another piece of that ever growing puzzle, with the debut single from Windy City trio, Death By Icon. “Let Loose” lives up to its title perfectly: a genuinely fun experience painted through playfully honest lyrics and charismatic vocals, complimented by a spastically vibrant, percussion-driven instrumental that melds together elements of hip-hop, juke, and bounce. Comprised of members Vic (vocals), Dook (producer) and Ant (vocals/co-producer), Death By Icon brings to mind a pastiche of influences from OutKast, to Chance The Rapper and Major Lazer, however the group is already able to stand out completely on their own.

Grab a free download of the dope tune above, and follow the band on Facebook and Twitter as they prepare for the release of their upcoming album, Trybecca, set to drop on April 8th.

[Epic] Sam Smith – Money On My Mind (salute Remix)

Sam Smith
Money On My Mind (salute Remix)

Sam Smith may not have “money on his mind,” but this new remix from salute is definitely all we have on ours. The 17 year-old prodigy from Austria achieves the previously impossible, improving upon the Two Inch Punch produced original by leaps and bounds (ok, that last statement might be a little extreme). The best description for this new single is probably “Flume-esque,” instantly bringing to mind his remix of “You & Me.” Layering the single with a whole new arsenal of synths, strings, and drums, salute is able to attribute much more importance to Smith’s lyrics, while rejuvenating it with some added depth. If you’d like to grab a copy of this track yourself, you can pre-order the upcoming Money On My Mind EP, set to drop on February 16th. Also keep on the lookout for Smith’s debut album, In The Lonely Hour, which is currently slated for a May 26th release.
