[Nu-Disco] AlunaGeorge – Supernatural (Pomo Remix)

AlunaGeorge
Supernatural (Pomo Remix)

We always get real eager when a new Pomo tune drops, and the Canadian producer kills it with his latest, a remix of AlunaGeorge‘s “Supernatural”. The re-work starts off with subtle static sounds combined with Kaytranada-esque intro instrumentation (a fellow HW&W artist). As Aluna’s vocals come in, a funky bassline emerges with another catchy synth melody to create some groovy goodness. The original track is stripped down to the bare bone and, when Pomo’s signature elements are incorporated, the end result is a tune so addicting that we just can’t get enough of it.

It’s barely been a month since the release of Pomo’s stellar debut EP, The Other Daybut we’re already eager for more. His releases guarantee quality music, and we are definitely excited to see what he has in store for 2015.

[Vinyl Giveaway] Warren G – Regulate…G Funk Era (Album Reissue + Remixes)

Warren G
Regulate (Destructo & Wax Motif Remix)

Warren G‘s Regulate…G Funk Era album has stood the test of time as a project that helped defined a whole genre along with classics like Dr. Dre‘s The Chronic and Snoop Dogg‘s Dogystyle. Although G-Funk’s prime has passed, it has had a lasting impact not only in hip-hop introducing melodious flows and funky production but also across genres even inspiring the inception of G-House. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the multi-platinum selling classic, Def Jam/Universal put together a re-issue of Regulate…G Funk Era that features 3 EDM remixes of its smooth, timeless title track. It’s only fitting that one of the remixes comes from Australian trap-leaning producer Wax Motif and LA’s own Destructo, who’s recent West Coast EP updates the classic sounds of his home coast. Give Wax and Destructo’s dope take on “Regulate,” which strikes a perfect balance between the original and hard-hitting electronic elements, above.

We’re excited to be giving away a Vinyl and CD of the reissue including the full original album and the remix above along with two more from Jaux and Photek. Enter your email below to enter! We will be accepting participants through next Thursday, 12/18, and the winner will be notified via email the morning of 12/19. [Bounce] T.I. & Young Thug – About Da Money (Kaytranada Remix)

T.I. & Young Thug
About Da $ (Kaytra Remix)

Young Thug has had an absolutely ridiculous year rising from obscurity to one of the most talked about and controversial artists in hip-hop. Thug tends to be a polarizing figure, but it’s hard to deny the addicting nature of his music. Regardless, the Atlanta emcee’s wild, melodic flows lend themselves perfectly to electronic remixes. Canadian producer Kaytranda, who has had a spectacular year himself, is the latest to take on a Thugger hit with spectacular results. Choosing one of Thug’s catchiest tunes, the T.I.-featuring “About Da Money,” Kaytra minimizes the instrumentation of the original replacing it with a jazzy bounce and keeping the vocals in tact. Perhaps the most compelling part of this re-work comes around the 3:30 mark when it goes full instrumental introducing energetic percussion that creates a supreme groove. Peep this one above–we’re excited to hear what 2015 has in store for both of these rising stars.

[Deep House] Bobby Nourmand – THE DOORS X PEACE FROG

Bobby Nourmand
THE DOORS X PEACE FROG

Made on the same block as Jim Morrison’s last LA residence, and released on Jim’s birthday (12/8), Bobby Nourmand is making damn sure to give some praise to one of the people who inspired him the most, and he’s doing so with a deep house interpretation of this legendary track from The Doors.

Blood in the streets in the town of New Haven
Blood stains the roofs and the palm trees of Venice
Blood in my love in the terrible summer
Bloody red sun of fantastic L.A.

Nourmand let the lyrics more so than the music be his focus for this chilling remix, using their ominous message to craft a dark and cavernous soundscape. The synth structure is deep and surging, pairing perfectly with the heavy bassline and echoing snare slaps in a way that intensely engages the listener throughout.

This tune is a free download on Bobby Nourmand’s soundcloud page. Make sure to head over there, follow him, then snag an MP3 for your personal collection.
