[Event Preview] Toro Y Moi + Classixx (Live) at The Ogden Theatre – Denver, CO – 11/6/13

Fresh off the heels of one of our favorite albums of 2013 thus far and his third full-length under the Toro Y Moi moniker, Anything In Return, Chaz Bundick’s Berkeley-via-South Carolina music project once again touches down in Denver, CO at The Ogden Theatre this Wednesday, November 6 for what looks to be an amazing night also featuring L.A.’s rising house music heartthrobs  Classixx and their new live show. Not one to be pigeonholed into any single genre, each of Toro Y Moi’s respective releases have been far and away a different animal than the previous, using structural production elements from pop, indie, garage, chillwave, house and more to result into one of our favorite live acts around and a can’t miss for our TMN family.

Rounding out the amazing bill is aforementioned production duo, Classixx, who are also riding the waves of momentum from a sonically captivating debut long-player of their own which was actually many years in the making, Hanging Gardens. Classixx brings their new live performance with them after years as touring DJ’s and they are already welcome faces to the Denver dance scene after delivering solid performances in 2013 at both the Norad Dance Bar and The Ogden; so we expect a raucous crowd to begin piling in as soon as doors are opened. For our Denver Ninjas, you can buy your tix here, and we’ll see you on the floor this Wednesday! In anticipation of Wednesday night’s show, you can stream Toro Y Moi’s “So Many Details” off of Anything In Return and Classixx’ viral hit from Hanging Gardens “Holding On” below. Enjoy.

Disclosure – You & Me feat. Eliza Doolitlle (Toro Y Moi Remix)

Disclosure
You & Me ft. Eliza Doolittle (Toro y Moi remix)

Oh, how fortunate it feels when a pair of your hands-down favorite artists/groups in the entire landscape of music conjoin to create a musical lovechild. Such was the case this morning when Toro Y Moi’s remix of Disclosure‘s recent single “You & Me”, featuring the lovely Miss Eliza Doolittle on the mic, came across our office desk. Coming off of critically acclaimed studio album Anything In Return, which was an admirable stab at a pure pop record from the Prince of Chillwave (I hate that tag), Mr. Bundick seems to have stayed in that vein with his latest strung-out take on “You & Me”. While it is definitely a far-cry from the garage-pop, funk infused original; toning down dance-hall friendly drums in favor of warping the track down to a breezy stride, there is still a veritable amount of danceability encased within. It seems this last year of constant live touring, mostly off of new material, has left a stamp on Toro’s production prowess and resulting sound, and it is also something that pleases the entire TMN family. Expect even more new material from both Disclosure and Toro Y Moi, as the Brothers Howard are getting ready for the release of their first full-length Settle, and Toro Y Moi’s hectic touring schedule has begun to level off as to focus more on pushing out original music from his L.A. studio. Listen to the laid-back take on “You & Me” above and be on the lookout later today when Disclosure unveils the studio version of single “F For You” on Zane Lowe’s BBC1 Radio show a little later on.

[Chill] Toro Y Moi – So Many Details

Seems like yesterday that Chaz Bundick, AKA Toro Y Moi, was spearheading the chillwave movement (alongside artists like Washed Out and Neon Indian) when he dropped his debut album Causers of This back in 2010. But just as the genre has evolved over time, so has he. His new song “So Many Details” still has the trademark relaxed style, but with some added pop swag. The track will be put out as a 7″ single for Record Store Day’s “Back To Black Friday” on November 23rd. The B-side is a remix featuring Odd Future’s Hodgy Beats.
