[Mp3 Injections] Daily Dose of New Music

The Music Ninja along with our good friends from Inyourspeakers will be getting you high with a powerful dose of fresh music (almost) everyday. You know, they say time flies when you’re having fun. We must really love sharing sweet new tracks with you then, because it’s already time for yet another Daily Dose of New Music. Today’s tracks are especially great; you don’t want to miss any of them.

We thought we’d kick things off with a bang with this brand new banger from Bassjackers and Ralvero titled “Bang Like A.” As those of you with minds in the gutter have already correctly guessed, the track sports some suggestive innuendo — just what the doctor ordered to get your Tuesday night clubbing going strong.

Just a few months ahead of his long-anticipated fourth record, Swanlights, Antony Hegarty and his band of Johnsons are releasing an EP titled Thank You For Your Love, from which we’ve pulled this rousing, anthemic titular track to share with you. The EP also includes Antony’s takes on a few Dylan and Lennon tracks (the latter of which features William Basinski, of The Disintegration Loops fame), as well as a bonus track from 2009’s The Crying Light.

For what few of our readers aren’t already aware of Lissie, a quick look-see around the internet will likely find the country-tinged singer-songwriter vixen with a cigarette between her lips and a clear don’t-give-a-fuck attitude in her eyes. Stripping the usual scratchy vocals for something closer to Neko Case, this new track off her imminent new LP Catching a Tiger takes the heartfelt route a bit more than we’re used to, but not more at all more than we like. Check it out for yourself below.

While Röyksopp fans were disappointed last year by the delay of Senior, the reportedly darker, “senile sibling” of 2009’s Junior, it looks like that wait is finally over. The first taste we’re getting for what we’re likely to get on the new album, slated for release Sept 13th, is this track, “This Space.” While it doesn’t look like this particular cut is a part of the forthcoming album’s official tracklist, it’s definitely a track fans of the Norwegian duo will want to hear.

Last for today, but certainly not least, is a new remix of Vampire Weekend‘s “White Sky,” this time from remix artist/composer Cécile. This is the second major remix we’ve heard on this track (the first being from Basement Jaxx), and this take spreads the song out into a light, bubbly piece of ambient chillwave. Fans of Vampire Weekend will surely want to check this one out.

Last but not least California rapper P (The Letter P) teamed up with Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic to record a down to earth soft track with a very chill vibe.

[Review] Blackbird Blackbird – Summer Heart LP

During the continued rise of electronic music over the past several years, countless acts have attempted to take the basic facets of the genre and make it their own with little twists of psychedelia and the like. It’s a tricky endeavor, for sure, so we’re glad that bands like Blackbird Blackbird have joined in on the fun with songs that pick and choose the best styles to create something that is at once familiar and fresh. Though their debut doesn’t have any ceiling-shattering moments, it is unfailingly pleasant in its entirety because of its apparently innate carefree breeziness. The fact that most of the songs are two minutes or less in length only makes them sweeter in their apparent simplicity. Though it’s most often low-key, the music on here is memorable for its wistful, layered hooks and simple but affecting lyrics and instrumentation. Check it out! You can purchase the LP on their bandcamp page here. Read full review at inyourspeakers.com

[Hip/Hop] K-os ft. Drake – “Faith”

K-os is responsible, in no small way, for the latest cycle of successful Canadian emcees. His break-through single (Crabbuckit) was a huge hit domestically and internationally for the singer/rapper. Drake is newer on the scene, but has already seen fame far beyond K-os 2004 success.

Make no mistake, Faith is very much a K-os song. It’s heavy in blues guitar and ethereal keyboard, and drums that sound like an actual drum-set. Drake holds his own but doesn’t touch K-os’ lyric in the song. On this track at least, he’s incapable of reaching the same depth as the lead emcee.

That said, this track could easily serve as an introduction to K-os for some of the millions of followers Drake recently acquired. I’m all in favor that, just know that this track barely scrapes the surface of K-os’ greatest hits.

[Interview] The Big Giant Dog of Dubstep: Rusko

As dubstep expands and spread throughout the world like an unstoppable virus wobbling through the airwaves (with symptoms like having a severe urge to party), certain leaders of the genre have emerge to not only popularize it but transform it into an evolving beast of bass distortion. And this is where Rusko comes in. As Taylor from themixster.com writes “Since becoming a member of the elite mad scientists of sound that make up the Mad Decent cult, Rusko has been tweaking and adding a dancey lightheartedness to the wobbly genre; essentially inventing his own dubstep formula, that contrasted distinctively with the dark and gritty character that formerly generalized dubstep as a whole.”

Rusko will be playing at the Electronic Zoo Festival in NYC Saturday September 4th we could not wait until then to talk to him. Our Electronic Ninja and founder of The Mixster, Taylor Doms was able to sit down and have a chat with Christopher Mercer as she explored Rusko’s experiences in LA, his career as a producer and his take on the current electronic genres. Click here to read the entire Interview.

Q: How are you?

I’m actually on the freeway driving back to San Diego.

Q: Oh that’s great I’m actually in San Diego, I saw you last night and you did a great job!

Yeah one of the cd players was busted, so I don’t know what happened, I hope I covered ok.

Q: I saw that you went to comic-con today, what did you think of it?

It was a lot of fun actually. It was really really cool. I met with a lot of people so you know, hopefully there will be some Rusko tracks in some cool movies and video games too. It was a really cool place I couldn’t believe it, it’s the ultimate sci-fi geek fest.

Q: I wanted to ask you a few questions about Mad Decent and Dubstep of course,  so why don’t we get right into it: Your label Mad Decent is arguably one of the most forward thinking ground breaking labels: Always manipulating genres, fusing together music cultural influences, even creating new ones, How do you see yourself as an active piece of that puzzle?

Well, I have been friends with Diplo and Switch for a long time so being part of the camp was obviously a logical progression. One of the cool things about it is that I get to tour with those guys so I get to see my friends when I’m on tour which is really cool. But really it kind of is all about good vibes, you know. I think that is really why I wanted to be a part of it. My music is not particularly dark or aggressive like a lot of Dubstep is. It’s kind of a bit more fun and jolly and that’s really that thing: Fun and party vibe  kind of mad decent, right?

Q: Absolutely Its Mad Decent! California in particular is usually the last to get everything in the electronic music world and Dubstep is pretty huge here at the moment as you saw last night…

…Oh my god, yeah! I am playing Audiotistic tomorrow. They actually just moved me to the main stage right after Kid Cudi, I was headlining in the dance area but they were worried the security and the area wouldn’t be able to handle THE RUSKO!!! So the moved me to the Main Stage!

Seriously, It’s even overtaking the house crowd now which is insane. When it over took the Drum n’ Bass crowd Im like ‘yea this is really good. It’s doing really well’! But when Dubstep is pulling the same numbers as house DJs… That’s crazy! Because house is always the kind of dance music really. If we can sell more tickets and get more people than house DJs, that’s really cool.

[Video] Kanye – “Power”

I know I am late to post this video but I just wanted to make sure I give my opinion about it. Even though Kanye is one of the biggest douchebags on this planet, if you put aside the massive ego that gets him in trouble all the time, I can’t help but to respect the guy for his talents as a producer and how far he is willing to go to prove a point (even if Taylor Swift is the victim). Does it bother me that he thinks he is up there with Jesus and Hercules? I do not really care as long as he keeps pushing out quality music. This video has “300” badass written all over it and yes I do think this is better than Eminem’s + Rihanna video (because I cant stand Rihanna)

[Album] Arcade Fire: The Suburbs

You can call the overwhelming earnestness of The Suburbs, the latest Arcade Fire effort, something of a return to form, but I won’t. Clearly, there is retrospect and nostalgia that colors this album, but as Régine put it on “In the Backseat”, “I’ve been learning to drive. My whole life, I’ve been learning.” It’d be great if we could all just be passengers on the journey of our lives, watching life as it unfolds, but eventually we have to grow up and take the wheel. The Suburbs is a new page, but if you must, you can think of it as a maturation from Funeral. It can’t match the excitement of either of the first two records, but really, isn’t that what growing up is all about? Read full review at inyourspeakers.com
