[Hip-Hop] Cashmere Cat & DJ Mustard – Ice Rink

Cashmere Cat & DJ Mustard
Ice Rink

Yes, you’re reading that right. Cashmere Cat and DJ Mustard. I had to say it again for it to really sink in. Our favorite feline has been slowly making his reign known in the American hip-hop scene, what with the Ludacris, Wiz Khalifa and Jeremih joint, “Party Girls,” and “Body Language” with Usher, Tinashe and Kid Ink. That’s already an impressive résumé in only two songs. Even though he’s stayed fairly behind the scenes with these prior releases, a change is occurring, and “Ice Rink” is about to be the catalyst.

You can’t argue that DJ Mustard is everywhere. With Cashmere’s unpredictable production and apparent fondness for hip-hop driven remixes, this collaboration makes perfect sense. It works so well too. The bouncy nature of Mustard’s beats squaring off with Cashmere’s ice cold synths, vocal chopping and command of space favor each other for a spectacular result. While it may just be another day for Mustard, it’s exciting to see Cashmere Cat’s consistent rise going so smoothly. This mean nothing but spectacular things for the future of hip-hop, and there’s even been hints of more tunes with these two on the way. Let’s hope so.

Beyonce – 711 (DJ Mustard Remix)

Beyonce
711 (DJ Mustard Remix)

Beyonce‘s latest single has already taken over the radios, clubs, and your pre-game mix playlist, so it was only a matter of time before it got the remix treatment. In the news of the unexpected, southern hit-maker DJ Mustard takes on the infectious party single with a unexpected flip to the beat. Adding a EDM backdrop and completely changing up the melody and rhythm, his latest remix to the track is definitely something that can help carry the song into the Spring and Summer playlist of 2015. Although this isn’t the first time Mustard has placed his work on the track, this is one of the few times we get to hear a electro-mix of his beat. At first, the track starts off with a simple synth beat until it is loaded with a multiple elements to tingle the eardrums and the senses. At times, it seems that Mustard just threw in whatever would sound good in the backdrop, but the eclectic track still carries the same fun-loving and free-spirited vibe that the original had-minus the chorus and Southern feel.

[Future Trap] Clean Bandit Feat. Jess Glynne – Rather Be (DJ Mustard Remix)

Clean Bandit Ft. Jess Glynne
Rather Be (DJ Mustard Remix)

A few days overdue, but this remix is too epic for it to not get some TMN light shed on it. Many of you are already very familiar with the name DJ Mustard, or at least with the popular phrase “Mustard on the beat, hoe.” Starting to ring a bell? If you still aren’t sure who he is, we can assure you that at least 70% of the hip hop songs you hear on the radio are produced by this guy.

Considering that Mustard is notorious for his hip hop production and his signature four note melodies, it may come to many as a major surprise that he is releasing a remix. Not only that, but this remix touches the future area of EDM with a bit of trap mixed in. Let us just tell you that our jaws dropped after first listen.

DJ Mustard’s remix of Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be” is as sexy as it is badass. First deceiving listeners with the exact same opening as the original, he throws in a subtle difference via a catchy beat cued by his all too familiar catch phrase. This then opens up to a futuristic breakdown constructed by some incredible EQing and mixing followed by pure bass and melody. Only expect the unexpected with this one.

[NEW] Rick Ross – Sanctified (Feat. Kanye West & Rick Ross)

Rick Ross
Sanctified (Feat. Kanye West & Big Sean)

It’s already been a busy week for hip-hop so far, but it only seems to be looking up from here. With Rick Ross‘ sixth studio album, Mastermind, set to drop next week, we’re getting an early listen of the most anticipated track from the project, “Sanctified.” Featuring G.O.O.D. Music’s Kanye West and Big Sean, “Sanctified” is a soulful banger, crafted through a combined effort between Yeezy and DJ Mustard. All three emcees trade bars interchangeably over an instrumental that features a few trademarks from both talented producers. While this is probably the first single to really move the needle for us on Ross’ latest album, there’s still some interesting collaborations yet to be heard featuring The Weeknd, Lil Wayne, Mavado, Scott Storch, and more. Check out the single above, and make sure to get your pre-orders in for Mastermind before it drops on March 4th.
