[Electronic] Chet Porter ft. Chelsea Cutler – Stay

Chet Porter - Stay

Anytime a new artist joins the Foreign Family Collective roster, we simply cannot contain our excitement. The new addition is none other than Chet Porter, the Canadian producer who we sat down with a while back to talk about the upbringing of his sound following his release of “Awakening”. Chet teamed up with singer Chelsea Cutler for “Stay”, the 11th installment by the collective behind duo Odesza. Incorporating a mellow and joyous melody with Chelsea’s dreamy vocals, Chet manages to create another unconventional track that utilizes the style of storytelling. The buildup leads to synth bursts that create an ecstatic vibe that resembles the sound of Porter Robinson. It’s definitely a potential anthem everyone could get familiar with.

Joining the likes of Jai Wolf, RÜFÜS DU SOL and Big Wild, Chet Porter deservedly belongs in the FFC fam. Make sure to catch him at a show near you as he’s going on a North American tour in fall. Trust us – you don’t want to miss out on one of the biggest up and coming artists of 2016. Peep the tour dates below and you can get tickets here!

[Deep House] Dyrisk & Flyboy – Over You

Dyrisk & FlyBoy
Over You

Following the success of “Maze”, Italian producer FlyBoy keeps the ball rolling with the release of “Over You”. Teaming up with Norweigan singer/producer Dyrisk, FlyBoy combines the soulful vocals from Dyrisk with colorful production. The deep house arrangement brings out the infectious melody of the track, together with the synth progression that resembles the one in Petit Biscuit‘s “Sunset Lover”. The lyrics and guitar melodies offer a rather organic feel to the track, making this emotionally-driven tune the perfect track to get over hump day.

Out via Tipsy Records, “Over You” is just a sneak peek of what FlyBoy has in store for us. Stay tuned for more dance music from the young producer.

T’was that time of the year again! One of the most anticipated summer music festivals just took Southern California by storm. We’re talking about HARD Summer, which ran its course with a weekend filled with epic festivities. Besides the newly-added option for camping, this year’s festival offered a superb lineup that definitely shined the spotlight on many up and coming artists, especially those in the electronic dance music scene. We know that words won’t do it any justice, but we’ll take a crack at giving you our FIVE favorite acts from the weekend.

Slushii

When we got the word that a “surprise guest” would come out during Slushii‘s debut set, we would’ve never guessed it’d be Skrillex, who actually surprised Slushii too. Julian Scanlan a.k.a Slushii played “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”, and Skrilly jumped up on the DJ stand. “Make some noise for the future right here” were his words – pretty high praises from the dance music icon, as Julian’s dynamic set definitely got the whole place buzzin’. Check out this video below that captured the amazing moment.

[Dance] HWLS ft. ShockOne – Gamma

HWLS
Gamma (w/ ShockOne)

HWLS, the production project of Justin Elwin, just released a cross-genre dance gem that will pump up your Friday morning. HWLS first came into spotlight after Elwin teamed up with Ta-Ku with the release of tracks like “Plays” with Ty Dolla $ign and a remix of Tokimonsta‘s “Realla”.

Co-producing with fellow Australian producer ShockOne, HWLS combines a hardhitting bassline with sharp synth stabs to create an all-out infectious melody. To our surprise, Gamma’s high energy and upbeat production is drastically different than the chilled out and ambient vibe. The two various drops also put Elwin’s versatility in production in display. The genre-ambiguity will definitely satisfy a wide range of dance crowds.

Released via Future Classic, “Gamma” will be sure to make some waves for HWLS going into his debut US tour with Flume in August. Make sure to stay tuned for more tour info and exciting news for the talented HWLS!

[Festival Preview] HARD Summer 2016 – July 30/31 @ Auto Club Speedway, Fontana

Our favorite festival in Southern California is around the corner once again. We were absolutely blown away by last year’s HARD Summer, but 2016’s event is only going to be bigger and better! There is a couple of major changes in the festival this year, including the switch of venue and its addition as a two-day camping festival. That’s right – there’s camping available and it’s definitely going to fuel the festival vibe and spirit. In terms of location, HARD 2016 is taking place in the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, just east of the Pomona Fairplex (last year’s venue). Its move to the new location helps cope with the camping option and allows even more guests inside the festival. It’s definitely a giant step-up from the last HARD Summer.

Now moving on to the lineup. It’s everything we desire and more. It is a great mix between electronic and hip-hop acts, with a stacked roster of up and coming artists. Huge names like Flosstradamus, Medeon and Travis Scott would headline Saturday’s festival, together with talents like Rezz, Louis The Child, Jerry Folk, Slushii and many others who are shaping the current dance scene. Founder of Hard, Gary Richards a.k.a Destructo would also participate as the tradition continues. Following an epic performance from this year’s Coachella, Ice Cube would be closing out the night and would sure to turn up the heat in Fontana by a few more notches.

Sunday’s lineup is equally as awesome as Saturday’s. Electronic powerhouses like Dillon Francis and Zeds Dead will be returning to Hard Summer for the second straight year. Also, genius producer Porter Robinson is moved from Saturday to the Sunday lineup due to a scheduling conflict. Other popular electronic acts like Jai Wolf, Kaytranada and Mura Masa would also be participating in this giant dance galore. AC Slater, Boys Noize and Kill The Noise are some of the veterans in their respective genre that will be attending the festival. To top it all off, Major Lazer will be sure to conclude the night with an electrifying performance.

It’s safe to say that Hard Summer is an event you can’t miss. To get you pumped up when July 30 comes, we’ve prepared a playlist featuring some of the acts in the lineup. Peep it below and we’ll see you all there!

’Pretty Lights – Only Yesterday’

Caden Jester ft. Christopher Blake – Slow [TMN PREMIERE]

Caden Jester
Slow (ft. Christopher Blake)

Here in TMN, we strive to discover music that turns heads but is also outcast to genres. This gem by Caden Jester is the perfect example of that.

“Slow” is an infectious tune that explores elements from R&B and soul to future bass without them overshadowing one another. The vocals by Christopher Blake are powerful and add a nice R&B touch to the melody. Slow-paced drums and a groovy bassline bring out the downtempo vibe of the track up until the drop, which combines casual wavy synths and a more upbeat approach. Whichever genre you fancy, it would be very difficult to not vibe to this lovely tune.

Being that Caden is only 18 years old, it is amazing how he came to familiarize with all these different genres and is able to combine them and give his own spin to create an original track. With the release of “Slow”, it is safe to say we’ve found our next favorite producer to religiously follow.
