[Multi-Genre] Bad Royale – Quest of the Magi EP

Bad Royale are back at it again with their second EP release on Buygore. Quest of the Magi has the four producers sticking with their five track projects, as well as keeping with their unbounded style. Collaborators on the EP include their friends Ragga Twins, along with Clinton Sly, General Jah Mikey, Fly Boi Keno, and Goldie Gold.

Given that Bad Royale haven’t put out a bad, or even mediocre record yet, going into this project you already know you’re getting into something good. All five tracks are fire, but the ones that stick out above the rest are “$hakebox” and “Real Ruff Stuff.” The former is a twerk to moombah record that would have Diplo shaking his ass in praise. “Real Ruff Stuff” is a hard-nosed breakbeat record that samples the great DJ Hanzel. For those of you who like to get really wild, this is the epitomy of your sonic desires. Quest of the Magi is up for sale now, and it’s well worth the price.

[Future] Axel Boy – Feels EP

Axel Boy was looking to make an impact with his latest EP, Feels, on Buygore, and it’s safe to say he has. Lots of good things are going on for the Bristol producer who’s shifted his sound, at least for now, away from the heavy bass, while also being added to Arcane Talent Agency and the Buygore catalog. To make the whole situation even more special, Feels was released on his birthday!

Out of the three tracks that make up the EP, two of the tracks have vocals from Axel himself. Things start with “Liberty Flute,” a magical dive into the Axel Boy’s new direction. “Feel Like I Do” comes next with orchestral elements that fade into a fray of lively synth structures. “It’s Been Real” closes out the project with ethereal soundscapes and a hardened future bass sound. Feels is available through several online stores that you can choose from on the Buygore website.

[Future] TastyTreat X Tuslo – Inferno

TastyTreat X Tuslo
Inferno

Buygore is one of the hottest labels out right now, and they’re pushing all kinds of tracks. One of their latest is “Inferno,” a collaboration between TastyTreat and Tuslo. Despite it’s name, this is one cool, laid-back record. With Fall coming, more tracks on the lighter side are going to be coming out, and this is the perfect segue for the seasonal transition. A sweet mix of future with jersey club is what the ingredients of this production concoct, and people’s ears have been eating this up like it’s going out of style. Only thing is, TastyTreat and Tuslo aren’t going out of style anytime soon. “Inferno” is available as a free download, which we suggest you get, so you can plug it in to your playlists for the rest of the year. It’s one of those tracks that you won’t be getting over any time soon.

[TMN Exclusive Interview] Jaykode Talks Dream Festivals, In N’ Out Burgers and New Music

JayKode
BeeHive (Out Now)

Only a few days ago, rising bass aficionado, JayKode, released massive track, “BeeHive,” via Buygore. The piece is an elaborate scheme of electronic and live instrumentals that create a sound he labels as “classical bass.” You can hear JayKode demonstrating his mastery of both the piano and guitar, as well as production through out the track.

After having a listen of “BeeHive,” TMN was eager to get to know the producer behind the intense and intricately structured tune.

TMN: Many who listen to your music may be unaware that you’re not only a producer, but additionally, a classically trained musician. What made you decide to create electronic music?

JayKode: It’s been a long and interesting journey. I’ve been doing music almost my whole life. Like you mentioned, I started playing the piano when I was 7, then picked up the guitar when I was 13. Ever since then, I told myself that my number 1 goal in life would be to get my music out there to the world. Back then, I was heavy into the hardcore and metal scene but as I was growing out of it, I started getting into electronic music because all my friends were listening to it. This is back in 2007/2008, so the music was very different compared to how it is now but there was this energy and heaviness that really appealed to me. It was actually very similar to metal as far as composition, build-ups, drops/breakdowns, etc…Once I discovered Wolfgang Gartner, who is still one of my biggest inspirations to this day, I realized that I can actually use my classical skills and guitar skills and combine them to make some really dope electronic music. I feel like he was one of the first to really break that barrier by combining extremely melodic/classical elements with super distorted basslines and I immediately fell in love with his music because of that. That’s really when I embarked on this journey.

TMN: Would you consider electronic music the most predominant genre in CA at this time?

JayKode: I think so. I mean hip-hop is still a very big part of California, and more specifically Los Angeles, culture but I don’t think it’s bigger than electronic music. I know this is an overused example, but look at the Sahara tent at Coachella. Every year they put more and more emphasis on that stage and it keeps getting bigger and crazier with each festival. Sometimes it’s even more crowded than the main stage. It’s also mostly what you hear on the radio nowadays as well. Whether we want to accept it or not, the boundaries between pop and electronic music are becoming almost non-existent at this point. Mainstream pop nowadays IS mostly electronic music.
