[Electronic] NOTNO – Live

NOTNO
Live

New York City’s rising electronic act, NOTNO, has been cultivating some stellar sound design in recent months. I first caught wind of the duo when their uplifting tune “Take It Back” dropped around three months ago. Since then the energetic yet ambient style these two have mastered has been making multiple appearances in my kick back playlists.

Their most recent release, “Live,” builds on this juxtaposition between upbeat and downtempo approaches. The track opens by establishing a huge, spacey atmosphere that soon strongly driven by groovy basslines, high flying synths, and progressive percussion. To top it all off, echoing vocals accent the track’s otherworldly energy with a vocal hook that promises to stick in your head. Check out the tune here, and if you’re into it, give their other recent release, “Gold,” a listen.

[Ambient] dream beach – the kiss of the century (ft. cub)

the kiss of the century ft cub

Andy Oliver, AKA dream beach, has long been among my favorite forces in the ambient electronic scene. The watery, bell driven soundscapes he consistently crafts never fail to send me packing to extended vacations into my imagination. Thankfully, Oliver’s most recent endeavor, “the kiss of the century,” only expands on the otherworldly atmosphere that he has cultivated throughout his previous work.

The tune features fanciful singing from Detroit’s mystical vocalist CUB, and builds on it marvelously with swelling synths and hypnotic syncopation. In regard to his experience putting together this auditory imagery, Oliver told us:

“TKOTC I made mostly in total delirium. I can see myself fighting rest, barely even there, teary eyed. My favorite ideas come to me very late at night right before I’m about to fall asleep. To me the instrumental acts as audible hallucinations during what felt like temporary insanity.”

Tülpa is an artist who I always look forward to hearing from. This guy has cultivated a sound unlike any other in the electronic music scene with his intuitive musicality and willingness to improvise a unique style. The hallmark of Tülpa’s work comes in his comforting, down to earth production that eloquently captures an air of relaxation.

The producer’s most recent work, a track titled “GNATS” featuring warm vocals from BLANKTS, demonstrates his willingness to move away from the mainstream. Emotional, thought provoking production supports soft singing to create a mellow mood. If you’re the kind of person who enjoys taking time to chill out, add this one to your playlist ASAP.

Lift Me Up (FlyBoy Remix)

We are absolutely in love with this remix by FlyBoy. Starting off with a familiar guitar riff and Mree‘s sustained vocals, “Lift Me Up” will melt your heart away. The Italian producer gives the original a chill outfit by incorporating a house beat. The dreamy vocals accentuate the ambient vibe of the track and bring out a familiar sound resembling Robin Schulz‘s.

This has to be one of the best tracks FlyBoy’s put out to date. The pleasant guitar melodies might just get stuck in your head for the rest of your day. It’ll be difficult not to enjoy listening to this nighttimey tune. We know the young producer has more remixes coming out in the near future so stay tuned.

Loud Places (feat. Romy) [Eekkoo Edit]

If you haven’t already checked out Jammie xx’s latest release, “Loud Places,” featuring the vocals of the xx’s Romy Craft, you may want to hop on that. The original production, both exquisite and mysterious, embodies such a profoundness that it’s pretty questionable as to why anyone would want to remix it. But that is before you listen to Eekkoo’s edit. He makes sure not to damage any of the song’s existing beauty by working around the melody and craftsmanship, only by adding in a subtle beat that continues throughout the entire duration of the track. The product is a club-compatible version with a hint of a techno feel that you’ll put on repeat for days.

HiyHiy (WATERBED Remix)

Not only is this track the latest and greatest premiere here on TMN, but it’s also both LostBoyCrow and Waterbed’s debuts on the site and the rest of catalogue finds themselves in good company with this release. LostBoyCrow comes to us from the warm streets of LA where it seems everyone has a dream, but not everyone has the talent or hustle to make it work. He’s only a few releases in but he’s proving himself to be an A&R’s dream come true with his unparalleled skills that will strike gold in today’s R&B market. WATERBED come to us with a Golden State of mind as well, and this certainly won’t be the last time we feature this dreamy duo either. It may be frozen east of the Rockies, but you can still warm up to anything on these two’s catalogue, we promise. As for the remix, it’s a knock out of the park. Airy, energetic, and a nice blend between indie pop & R&B, this track will make waves very soon.
