[Electronic] BASECAMP – In Stone (VALENTINE Remix)

BASECAMP
In Stone (VALENTINE Remix)

It’s not February yet, but VALENTINE is what we have on our minds. Apparently, the same thing could be said for OWLSA, who backed the mysterious producer for an official remix of “In Stone” by BASECAMP.

One of the things we love about this one is it doesn’t exactly fit nicely into a specific genre. It’s sort of a few different things, but doesn’t really fit snug anywhere. Everything from the sound design to the song’s composition is done at an expert level. VALENTINE’s remix stylistically isn’t straightforward, but also the songwriting isn’t either, as the track develops from beginning to end without any moment of stale sound. It’s fresh, clean, and totally awesome. If you’re not familiar with VALENTINE, better get started now.

[Electronic] Vindata – Through Time and Space (EP Stream)

’Vindata – Wide Awake Ft. Kenzie May’

LA production duo Vindata are veterans of the electronic music scene who have maintained a refreshing sound through the genre’s various twists and turns. With backgrounds in hip-hop production they were onto elements of the EDM Trap sound long before the sub-genre existed but, at the same time, were pioneers in straight electro music as well–I can still recall blasting their remix of Band Of Skulls’ “Fires” out of my dorm room 5 years ago. Over the last couple years, they’ve been particularly prolific with both originals and remixes (their take on Odesza’s “Without You” being a personal favorite) culminating in their latest EP–Through Time and Space.

The project spans, and builds on, their various sonic explorations proving a fascinating combination of sounds cataloguing their journey as artists thus far. The EP opens with the booming “Spirals,” a straight electro banger that long-time fans will appreciate. Following that enormous intro, as its name promises, the EP takes the listener on a journey with upbeat, R&B-influenced cuts like “Own Life” and “Gypsy” to more chilled-out, atmospheric tracks like the closer “Can’t Say No.” The track “Wide Awake” stands out as the catchiest tune with its beautifully screeching chorus but, as with all the songs, its emotional power is accentuated in the context of what is a truly cohesive project.

Through Time and Space is out now via OWSLA— you can stream it in full below and grab a copy over at iTunes here.

[Trap] Carmada – Maybe (Elk Road & SLUMBERJACK Remix)

Carmada
Maybe (Elk Road & SLUMBERJACK Remix)

Carmada has quite the list of remixers for the track “Maybe.” On that list you will find Elk Road and SLUMBERJACK who are two act’s that have begun a race to the top, with both having already landed huge releases. Now, OWSLA is backing their official flip of the Australian’s original. As far as trap goes, this is one of the freshest recent releases that has hit the web. It has a classy vibe to it, but there’s no denying this is a turn up tune. Get your trap arms ready and prepare to bob and sway, as these two acts have dished out a solid tune. They did an amazing job of utilizing stems from the original, while also keeping infusing their own originality into the mix. The remix EP for “Maybe” has not been released yet, however the pre-order is currently available.

[Dubstep] MUST DIE! – Death & Magic LP

MUST DIE
Together

Today sees the release of the eagerly awaited “Death & Magic” LP by MUST DIE!. The first single, “Hellcat”, turned more than a few heads and MUST DIE! had revealed, in a number of interviews, that we should expect the unexpected. Out now on the mighty OWSLA, the album features ten tracks and is something of a belter.

The producer stays true to his word almost instantaneously with the first three tracks covering familiar Dubstep terrain, contemporary Trap sounds and almost a blend of the two with the help of Ragga Twins and Datsik. The 4×4 sounds then come through, with “Filter System” ft. Descender, before Tkay Maidza steps into play to contribute to the Moombah-tinged “Imprint”. Only half way through and you feel like you’ve listened to five different artists already.

The second half rolls forward with more relentless bass, a 128bpm offering from the LP’s first single, ‘Hellcat’, before further 140 goodness leads into the final track. ‘Star Throne’ is an apt ending to what is an eclectic album – a real blend of all sorts of sounds and styles and with no let-up on energy.

If you came here for deep sounds, progressive beats and a chilled night in, you may be disappointed. If you came to tear out, be taken on a journey and listen to a blend of all things bass – you’ve come to the right place. This is a seriously impressive debut LP from MUST DIE! – you can purchase a copy here.
