[17 To End ’17] Ninja Ash’s Best of the Year

Listen to the playlist on Spotify // Apple Music.

Nite Jewel‘s Real High, full of lush instrumentation and flawless percussion, is meant for late night listening–“Obsession” captivates with its sensual atmosphere.

Gabriel Garzón-Montanos unique take on soul made for one of the most captivating albums of the year. “Fruitflies” is an earworm of a track that tells a heartbreaking, deeply human story that needed to be heard in 2017.

“Baybee” captures everything I love so much about Jay Som‘s 2017 debut Everybody Works–dreamy, expansive and larger-than-life.

Slowdive‘s first album back in over 2 decades is a transformative masterpiece and “Star Roving” exemplifies its beautiful vastness.

We might be a bit biased since we premiered his first track on TMN Radio earlier this year, but Still Woozy may be the artist I’m most excited for in 2017. “Cooks” displays just how much emotion and soul he pack into a quirky, playful tune. Continue reading

We had a very rare episode to close out 2017 featuring all my favorite tunes of the year and a special guest appearance from former co-host Ninja Dom, in town from London. I started this playlist with about 12 hours worth of music and ended up focusing on tracks from my favorite albums of the year. To round it all out, I mixed together 11 of my favorite 2017 house tracks. We have some even more comprehensive end of year lists from our staff coming to the website later this week so stay locked. Thanks to everyone and anyone who rocked with Music Ninja Radio in 2017! – Ash

With special guest Tyler Hawkins, this week’s episode of TMN Radio was a particularly fun one featuring a mix of new age soul, R&B, hip-hop and house. On the eve of his performance at our Danksgiving North Bay Fire benefit show, Tyler shared a couple unreleased tracks alongside songs that have served as inspiration. The second half hones in on some of my favorite new electronic releases from Mr. Carmack’s flawless remix of a Chromeo classic to Yaeji’s hip-house perfection. Also mixed in are a few top notch house selections from Ditongo, Lane 8 and John Monkman c/o my good friend and former co-host Dom. Saturday’s Danksgiving party raised $3400 for the RCU Community Fund!

Anytime I take even a week off the show it feels like I’ve got way too much music to share. This time around I started with about 5 hours and whittled it down to the ones that best fit the vibe. Per usual, the show varies pretty drastically genre-wise spotlighting new albums from Mount Kimbie, LCD Soundsystem, Alvvays, Nosaj Thing, Brockhampton & Klyne. Also featured are singles from Adam Vida, Giraffage, Qrion, Slow Magic, Courtship Ritual & more.

After a month out of the studio, we had a ton going on during this week’s episode of TMN Radio. Co-host Dom is embarking on a new life journey and will be moving to London next week so we bid him farewell for now–opening and closing the show with London-inspired tracks. We also had special guest Still Woozy to premiere his incredible first solo single and share some of his wide-ranging inspiration.

Of course, there was plenty of new music to share as well featuring Tyler Hawkins, Bobby Nourmand, Odesza, Yaeji, Mac DeMarco, Kendrick Lamar & more!
