[Amazing Premiere] Ellie Goulding – Figure 8 (Feature Cuts Remix)

One thing The Music Ninja always loves is an up-and-coming artist who we know is on their way to taking over the music scene. When said artist gives us the honor of premiering their work, well, we are pretty ecstatic. Tonight, I have the honor of writing up the premiere of Feature Cuts remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Figure 8”. Feature Cuts is a fairly new EDM producer hailing from Houston who started off on the hip-hop and rap side of the spectrum but after a while decided to use his energy towards producing electronic music and I’d have to say, that was the right move on his part.

Almost every artist out there in the electronic world attempts to take on an always phenomenal Ellie Goulding song and some of those artists do an unforgettable job like Feature Cuts. Feature takes this Ellie Goulding song and completely breaks the softness apart in a mind blowing awesome way. Starting strong immediately with bass and drums, Feature carefully strings Ellie’s voice into his constant moving melody. Then at 1:05, Feature shows just how heavy a drop he can make. The ear drums vibrate along with the body as he continues to carry this powerful drop for a good forty seconds before bringing back Ellie with a sweet, charismatic tune. Once again, Feature takes the listener on a drop that carries before pulling out the bass and carving Ellie’s voice in with a drum tool. As a lover for this music, I am going to keep holding on to see just what amazing new music Feature Cuts comes out with next.

[NEW] Ellie Goulding – Bittersweet (Prod. by Skrillex)

As if Ellie Goulding‘s recent album Halcyon wasn’t excellent enough to hold us over for the rest of the year, the English singer is back with a new track called “Bittersweet”. The song is produced by dubstep heavyweight and former boyfriend, Skrillex, making its title oddly appropriate given the couple’s split not too long ago. Despite Skrillex’s touch though, it’s a chill and mellow tune, filled with far more instances of aching vulnerability than sick wobbles.

Look for “Bittersweet” on the forthcoming Breaking Dawn Part 2 soundtrack.

Zedd – Clarity (Album Review)

Zedd‘s newest album Clarity is definitely one of the greatest albums of its kind this year. Track after track proves to have a phenomenal quality. Each hold its own weight and doesn’t sound as though it was just thrown into the tracklisting as filler, which isn’t something you often see in electronic albums. Usually there are three or four solid hits, while the rest feels like generic electro. However, Clarity is in no way like this.

If you want to invest in an electronic album that will cover a lot of ground genre-wise and will light up a dance floor, this is definitely it, hands down. The spectrum of electronic music genres on it is pretty large, with many of the songs representing the different genres very well. From heavy electro house tracks like “Codec” and “Stache” to lighter progressive pieces such as “Lost At Sea” and “Follow You Down,” and everything in between, Zedd knows when and how to use vocals and chords perfectly. My favorites are “Spectrum” and “Fall Into The Sky” featuring Ellie Goulding (how can you go wrong with that?).

Clarity flows so well that it can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what genre of electronic music they like or even if they don’t care for it at all. Zedd has showed a tremendous amount of skill with this debut and he’s only going to get better. You can stream some samples below and pick up the album on iTunes here. It will be available on Beatport on October 9th.

Calvin Harris – I Need Your Love (feat. Ellie Goulding)

Last two weeks have been release after release for Ellie Goulding, as we approach the release of her forthcoming album Halcyon on October 9th. Teaming up with prolific electronic producer Calvin Harris, the two collaborate on a high energy track that although contains very strong and catchy melodies, it does takes some getting used to. Ellie’s vocals mixed with such an aggressive dancy bassline is a departure from what we have seen producers do with her vocals, primarily using them with slow and grinding dubstep. We admit, Ellie is good enough to sound amazing no matter the circumstances and Calvin is well capable of producing the some of the best electronic experiences, yet most of the production feels a bit forced (primarily after the drops). Nevertheless it is a track that will be well played and hopefully give more exposure to these two amazing artists. Let us know what you think below.
