After a fun 2-hour mix of house / techno music last week, this episode returns to the usual genre smorgasbord of TMN radio. There were some exciting brand new artists to the show including the versatile stylings of Omar Apollo, a psychedelic experience from Portland band Hosannas, a vibey hip-hop cut from the Bay’s own Agpworldtour and a beautifully disorienting selection from Lotic’s debut album, ‘Power’. On the flip side, a lot of our favorite regulars dropped new albums or singles. As far as albums, The Internet’s ‘Hive Mind’ and Tanukichan’s fuzzy debut ‘Sundays’ are my personal favorites while Blood Orange’s latest single stands out as a track with endless replay value.

To close out the show I put together a disco-tinged set of house tracks. The mix includes cuts from madcat’s flawless debut EP ‘Petite musique de chanvre’, Route 8’s latest hazy project ‘Come Home’ and Detroit Swindle’s new album ‘High Life.’

On the eve of our Space Disco / BFF.fm Benefit, we were joined by BFF.fm’s founder Cosmic Amanda and the legendary DJ Chad. But before we got into the disco sesh, I kicked off the show with some hazy, spacey cuts from MGMT, Vivian Fantasy, Nabihah Iqbal and Akasha System. Vindata‘s new mixtape was so good that I had to squeeze in a lil sampler (4 songs!) of its soultronic magic. Before sharing some phenomenal disco cuts, Amanda and I chopped it up about BFF history, Victorian submarines and our mutual love of disco. DJ Chad closed the show out with some wiggly space bumps. – Ash

It was all about new music on this week’s episode with highlights including Willow Smith‘s silky new album, Still Woozy‘s latest flawless single, Mndsgn‘s filtered funk and a slew of bass-injected party starters from Star Slinger, Just Geo & more. Last week also marked the return of Jai & AK Paul and Tame Impala who both delivered the kind of quality we’ve come to expect from them. Finally, there was a spotlight on one of my favorite new finds Novelty Daughter who’s new album Inertia has been in heavy rotation.

Anytime I take even a week off the show it feels like I’ve got way too much music to share. This time around I started with about 5 hours and whittled it down to the ones that best fit the vibe. After a week away at Form Arcosanti, there were a bunch of new albums to catch up on from Slowdive, Nick Hakim, Nite Jewel, Hoops & more. The resulting mix made for a more laid back episode until the end where we got into some vocal-driven indie electronic tunes from Nick Murphy and newcomers Worth Way along with some hard-hitting bass music from the likes of Vincent, Flume and Sinjin Hawke.
