Benny Benassi on Danceaholics, “Cinema,” and Staying Healthy on Tour [EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

TMN: Hey Benny! First off – thank you for being a part of our Residency program. It’s an honor to have a legend like you onboard. Let’s kick things off by talking about Danceaholic, which is currently smashing up the charts. Talk to us about how you approached this project as a whole.

BB: I’m very fond of the instrumental track “Danceaholic” which lends its name to the whole album because it takes me back to my roots and projects me forwards at the same time.
The album is a bigger project of course. It’s a mixture of tracks that were already released and brand new material, so it’s a kind of a bridge between the last four or five years and where I’m going!

TMN: You have an eclectic group of artists with you on the album, including singer/songwriter legends like Chris Brown and John Legend, as well as a nice collection of other producers. How did you go about selecting who you wanted to work with?

BB: I work first and foremost collaborate with my cousin Alle Benassi. He’s my musician and producer. But I really love working with different collaborators. Chris Brown is such a great artist. Everything he sings just comes to life and is amazing. Since working together on “Beautiful People” we have an artistic relationship and always feel free to send ideas to each other, that’s how ‘Paradise’ came about.
As for John Legend I met him through a mutual friend of Alle and I, Jean Baptiste, in LA, who was working with John at the time, then we performed together at Coachella and we just knew we’d collaborate on the new album.

Next Up in TMN Residency: Benny Benassi

Benny Paradise Press Shot

Our Artist Residency program is one of our most prized possessions. Every month, we get to shine a spotlight on one of our favorite artists, showcasing them through a string of exclusive pieces. We try to rotate from month-to-month, as well, giving you a taste of both legendary and unknown artists. Well, this month falls under the former, as we welcome in long-time dance music icon Benny Benassi.

For us, our infatuation began early in Benny’s career. In fact, we were in attendance at his very first appearance in Denver at The Church Nightclub. The anticipation for this show was overwhelming, partly because Denver didn’t have the bustling music scene that it does now, especially when it came to dance music. The other reason was, of course, due to the tremendous success his global smash hit “Satisfaction,” from his debut album Hypnotica. The show was one that has stuck with us to this very day.

After that memorable tour, Benny continued his storied career, playing festivals like Coachella, EDC, Beyond Wonderland, and so many more, in addition to releasing two more albums, Phobia and Rock N Rave. As if the millions of adoring fans, and a stellar collection of originals and remixes wasn’t enough to solidify his legacy, he also added a Grammy to the list in 2008 for his remix of Public Enemy’s “Bring the Noise.”

2011 brought another strong pillar to his resume, as the world became enamored with the release of “Cinema” which dropped on his fourth album, Electroman. Subsequently, a young, quickly rising producer by the name of Skrillex got his hands on it, and both his remix, and the original were cemented in dance music history. Following that, the hits continued to come through collaborations with Chris Brown on “Beautiful People,” and John Legend on “Dance The Pain Away.”

With the recent release of his fifth album earlier this month with Ultra Records, we figured it would be a perfect time to rope him in to be our Resident Artist for the next few weeks. Stay tuned for some exclusive content from one of the industry’s best and brightest.

[Dutch House/Hip-Hop] Kanye West & Jay-z vs. Benny Benassi – Paris Satisifaction (Chuckie Pass That Dutch Remix)

At Identity Fest, I thought that Chuckie’s set was by far the best. I don’t know if it was because I love dutch house, or because of his stage presence, but his act blew all other acts (including Avicii) out of the water. That being said, I just came across this phenomenal bootleg over the weekend, where Chuckie mixes Jay-Z and Kanye’s “Niggas In Paris” and Benni Benassi’s “Satisfaction”. The Dutch boy loves to incorporate rap into his sets, and I’m a big fan.
