[Future/House] ILOVEMAKONNEN – Tuesday (The Golden Pony Remix)

ILOVEMAKONNEN
Tuesday (The Golden Pony Remix)

NYC indie-house craftsmen The Golden Pony stormed the blogosphere (specifically this one) in 2014 with a string of Hype Machine dominating disco painted remixes and originals. Today our favorite afro sporting dance ninjas return to TMN for the first time in 2015 with a straight shot to the clubs in the form of a remix for ILOVEMAKONNEN‘s inescapable Drake collab “Tuesday”. TGP deftly blends the original’s slightly off-key vocal sample with perfectly syncopated drums -including a garagey dose of popping snare, shuffling hi-hats along with a rightly swung deep bassline to induce a surefire hip-wiggle from its listener. About the new remix, the duo state: “We wanted to keep the original chorus of the song in tact so people would have something to sing along with, and then smash them in the face with a huge thick bass in the drop”. If there’s any opposition to that statement, we’d love to hear from them. In the mean time, stream The Golden Pony’s “Tuesday” remix above and snag a free download here. Did you catch that we posted this one on a Tuesday?… something must be going up.

Shake The Earth (OLWIK Remix)

I have a soft side for progressive house that actually PROGRESSES, and OLWIK, a Swedish producer who’s 18 years young, has a natural ability for it. Within the last year, he’s released four gigantic originals, each garnering a good amount of success and are on par with the production quality of some of the biggest names out there. Speaking of big names, OLWIK’s newest endeavor reimagines Elephante‘s prominent original, Shake The Earth, scaling back on the heavier electro sound and bringing out strong and uplifting progressive touch he’s started to master so well. There’s a budding main stage sound within OLWIK, and this remix is yet another stepping stone to achieving a large amount of notoriety and well deserved recognition. [Dance] The Prodigy – Nasty (Zinc Remix)

The Prodigy
Nasty (Zinc Remix)

Feeling nasty? This big beat banger by The Prodigy is remixed by fellow British producer/DJ Zinc, and it’s as nasty as it gets. The heavy-hitting original is stripped down and dressed up with another drum and bass outfit, providing a more refined sound. Strings that outline the original bassline are incorporated into the tune, as well as a series of deep bass synths. The result is an epic UK bass goodness that keeps you on your feet, headbang like crazy, or better yet, dance ’til your body can’t move anymore.

Big ups to the veteran DJ Zinc for bringing back the sound that everyone loves, and holding it down for the British dance scene. We cannot wait to see what magic he pulls in the future.

[Electronic] Koloto – Fox Tales (Set In Sand Remix)

Koloto
Fox Tales (Set In Sand Remix)

Glitch music has such a wide scope of possibilities. Set In Sand schools us in this train of thought with his newest remix of an older Koloto tune, Fox Tales. The original thrives on its own glitch elements as well, but Set In Sand has emphasized the unpredictable shift of this facet of music, ascending to a level almost on par with the Glitch Mob and their respective side projects. While Glitch Mob has had massive success with a higher energy, Set In Sand showcases his strength with a calmer approach.

This remix is chilling, inspiring, erratic yet pleasing, and an enjoyable overall listen. It twists and turns constantly, but manages to create an air of comfort with each shift of its rhythm as well. While it was released during the later part of last year, Bad Panda Records just recently added this remix to their SoundCloud. It was a pleasant reminder, and certainly merits a revisit.
