SMASHA – TightRope [TMN Premiere]

SMASHA
TightRope

Quality Goods Records is known for pushing the envelope. Like, actually pushing it, not just saying they are. Part of their mission to expand the borders of bass music and give rise to upcoming talent consists of their compilations. Two have come through and now they’re on their third, set to be released on February 16th. A day ahead of release we’ve got an exclusive stream for you of SMASHA‘s single on the project called “TightRope.”

The DC producer went in on this one. Upon first listening there was no way we could pass on premiering this one in the dojo. “TightRope” is a hybrid heater whose rhythms are going to melt your brain and have it leaking out of your head onto the floor. It’s so clean and yet so dirty. SMASHA’s got something special on his hands here and we hope to hear more from him soon! Enjoy the exclusive stream and make sure to pre-save the compilation on Spotify!

SANiTY – East Coast G House Compilation [TMN Premiere]

We’ve got quite the treat today. In the dojo we’re premiering a huge compilation album curated – and partly created – by SANiTY. In honor of the producer’s forte he has put together a ten track project called East Coast G House and you get the first listen to it here!

What makes this project interesting is not only that it’s a collection of incredible house records from talented producers, but it’s basically two projects in one. The first half of the LP is made up of original collaborations between house producers and emcees all from the East Coast, including works from SANiTY himself, SOUND.E, Kapo and GORILLUH. For the second half, SANiTY collected works that are all sample based. Together each half is strong on its own, but when they come together to form the entire compilation their power and groove exponentially grows. Listen through and have a funky Tuesday!

’SANiTY & R. Legend – “Ride” (Original Mix)’
’SOUND.E, Mav’Rick, & Chillz – “2 Da House” (Original Mix)’
’GORILLUH & Modo – “Hypnosis” (Original Mix)’

Artists like Kompany, ESQ, Adair, Revazz and Tuslo come back with some extra hot fire that is well worth the donation price. The third volume of black. rolls deep with a whopping fourteen singles. Donations from black. Vol. 3 will go to Give a Beat, a non-profit organization that serves as a catalyst for social change by bridging global electronic dance music culture with youth and families impacted by incarceration. The money provided will help fund DJ workshops designed to promote self-confidence, empowerment, individuality, and healing from trauma. Many of the youth participants come from underserved communities that are grappling with poverty, crime and gang culture, over-policing, and incarceration of a family member. [Multi-Genre] black. Vol. 1 Compilation

Bass music and charity are two of our favorite things. Recently they came together to benefit Youth On Record, an organization dedicated to guiding at-risk youth in Denver through leadership and musical pathways. Who brought these two together you might ask? That would be the black. collective with the first volume of their black. compilation.

Thanks to Cadence & Cause, the black. collective’s charitable desires came to life. Before the charity, the music had to be made. This epic collection of bass tracks, ranging from dubstep to moombahcore to trap, were put together by over ten artists, including BENTZ, Kompany, Tuslo, and WILLY P. Pegboard Nerds Talk Monstercat, Collaborations, and Paul McCartney [TMN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

Recently, TMN was granted the privilege to talk to the whimsical personalities of Alexander Odden and Michael Parsberg, the dynamic duo behind Pegboard Nerds. Before kicking off two major releases with Monstercat–Bring The Madness: The Remixes EP and their feature on Monstercat’s 021 Perspective Compilation–we had a chance to sit down with them in NYC’s Webster Hall right before they threw down a massive set.

Excision & Pegboard Nerds
Bring The Madness (Ft. Mayor Apeshit)

TMN: How’s it feel to be playing at Webster Hall in NYC? This is your second time back right?

Alex: Being back at Webster Hall feels fuckin’ awesome. It’s kinda intimidating too you know because it’s such a stable trademark of New York so you gotta be on point and deliver.

Michael: Same.

Alex: (Laughs) You can’t say same!

TMN: Best response yet. How did you guys first get involved with Monstercat and how do you feel about the future of the label?

Michael: Well it started back in 2012, early, early twelve. A friend from Australia actually pitched one of our songs to Monstercat because they were needing a track for one of their compilations and it kinda just went on from there. They wanted one more track, one more track, one more track, and it went on, went on, went on and all the way up. Yeah, so that’s how we started.

Then you asked about the future of the label, right? It’s difficult to predict, but I think they have a good track record and a good following, and the philosophy of the label is really good. They’re not focusing on doing the next big Hardwell, Axwell, Made-well, Big-well, Aoki-well, Sleep-well, whatever. They just wanna do great new talent.
