[NEW] Jeremih & Shlohmo – No More (EP)

After announcing the project late last year, Jeremih & Shlohmo took to the net today to finally drop their highly anticipated EP, titled No More. Although initially slated for release back in February, some issues between WeDidIt and Def Jam prevented the album from seeing the light of day, leaving its status in limbo (and perhaps inspiring the above artwork). With the label problems still left unresolved, the two decided to take matters into their own hands, releasing the entire EP for free in honor of Jeremih’s birthday.

Since first teaming up for the single “Bo Peep (Do U Right)” as part of Yours Truly Adidas Songs From Scratch series last year, the pair have been a perfect match, with Jeremih’s smooth, enticing vocals melding beautifully with Shlohmo’s hazy, lo-fi electronic production. The duo bring back many of those same elements on this EP, which features previous singles like “Bo Peep,” “No More,” and an extended version of “Fuck You All the Time (Remix),” as well as fresh new material that even includes a brand new track with fellow Chicagoan, Chance The Rapper. Although short at only six tracks in length, the project does a great job of keeping things interesting, with each song sounding fresh and unique enough to stand out on its own, while still coming together to form a cohesive whole that seems like it was thoughtfully placed together. After a few listens, this is already one of our favorite projects of the summer, and a guaranteed must download.

[NEW] Chance The Rapper & The Social Experiment – I Am Very Very Lonely

Chance The Rapper & Social Experiment
I Am Very Very Lonely

With today marking the one year anniversary of the release of Acid Rap (wow, that flew by fast), Chance The Rapper decided to hook his loyal fans up with some new material. Despite the occasion however, the Chitown native doesn’t seem to be in a celebratory mood. In fact, he’s very very lonely.

Continuing to explore fresh new sounds with his band, The Social Experiment, Chance begins the track by softly crooning, “It’s just me and la cucaracha tonight,” continuing on to perfectly capture the sentiments of all the reclusive (and hungry) stoners out there. It’s the ultimate anthem for anyone who catches themselves alone on a Friday night with nothing better to do than curl up on the sofa and scroll through their Netflix queue. While it’s rather amusing to listen to Chance run through his thought process, the song also serves as a reminder that despite his recent fame, he’s not too different from you or me.

[Chill] SZA – Childs Play (feat. Chance the Rapper) (prod. XXYYXX)

SZA ft. Chance the Rapper
Childs Play (prod. XXYYXX)

Top Dawg Entertainment‘s first female signee SZA, who is currently gearing up to release a project, dropped off an incredibly laid-back tune just a few minutes ago. As if one new Chance the Rapper verse wasn’t enough for today, the young emcee also snagged some bars on this cut. If you are already familiar with Orlando-based phenom producer XXYYXX, you will likely recognize the production from his 2012 track “About You” although it has been slightly sped up with some additional instrumentation by Dae One.

SZA’s vocals glide over the haunting, down-tempo beat and Chance delivers a solid verse that displays both his lyricism and unique singing voice. When the vocals of TDE’s first lady and Chance collide near the end, they make for a soothing harmony that close out the song perfectly. Peep above and keep an eye out for SZA’s project, Z,  which is set to drop on April 8th.

[Hip-Hop] Chance the Rapper & The Social Experiment – Home Studio

Chance The Rapper & The Social Experiment
Home Studio ( Back Up In This Bitch)

Chit-town rep and ninja favorite Chance the Rapper just improved our morning with a spontaneous release. “Home Studio,” as its name suggests, is a pretty raw song, but continues Chance’s creative narrative.

Over some fittingly fun and bouncy production, Chance goes in full ad-lib mode boasting about his success in the industry despite the uniqueness of his sound. In a way, the goofy tone ends up complementing the light and triumphant content of the lyrics. Check this one above for a fresh, mid-week energy boost.

[ULTRA 2014 Schedule Recommendation] TMN’s Must See Guide to Ultra (Miami 3/28 – 3/30)

1239423_10152109764737739_1828179057_n

Ahh. The time is finally here. All winter long we’ve been angrily looking at the calendar, not-so-patiently awaiting the start of festival season here in the states. To kick things off in 2014, we’re obviously overwhelmingly excited for what Ultra 2014 is bringing to the table.

As you would guess, this year’s line up is stacked, as usual. There’s a veritable pantheon of EDM legends, coupled with some amazing up and coming artists as well. We traditionally like to do a full stream of everyone that’s going to be there, but this year we’re going to change it up. Instead of giving you a tiny sample of each artist who’s playing, we’re going to give you our recommendations, day by day.

Scheduling is going to be tricky, so make sure you set out a proper game plan. It might be hard to stick to after a few beverages, but take it from us – don’t miss out on seeing your favorite artist, or any of these suggestions below:

Friday March 28th

Chainsmokers – Stage 7

Picked by Bryn Carter & Clayton Warwick

TMN Staff Comment: Two handsome devils reigning from New York who can make ANY song the ultimate remix. Make sure to check out these two who will keep your feet moving and your mind spinning with their intense indie/electronic melodies.

Picked by Eric Gossett

mia300-790e9b19a08dbe8b6be20c05655262c4260e563f-s6-c30
TMN Staff Comment: The ever-controversial M.I.A. is definitely a “don’t miss” performance at this year’s Ultra Music Festival. The singer just released her critically-acclaimed album Matangi last year and is currently being sued by the NFL for $15 million for her performance at the Super Bowl. So if that was what they (couldn’t) show at the Super Bowl, I can only imagine how wild her uncensored stage show must be.

’M.I.A. – Bad Girls’
’27’

Friday March 28th

12TH Planet – UMF Radio Stage

Picked by Clayton Warwick

12thplanet

TMN Staff Comment: Last year, I had the pleasure of introducing someone to trap, and did so by watching 12th Planet’s set on Sunday afternoon. This well respected, LA based producer will be throwing down a massive set full of filthy beats. If you want to get down and dirty, don’t miss this set.

Go Down Sunshine (12th Planet Remix)’

’12th Planet & Protohype

Kill The Noise – UMF Radio Stage

Picked by Michael Serratore

Kill-The-Noise-Kill-Kill-Kill-EP

TMN Staff Comment: There are plenty of players in the world of filthy bass, but no one does it quite like KTN. There’s an undeniable energy in everything he does, and that will only be taken to the next level amongst a crowd of frenzied fans

’Thumbs Up (For Rock N’ Roll) with Feed Me’
’DUCKSAUCE – NRG (Skrillex, Kill The Noise, Milo & Otis RMX)’
’Kill The Noise & Dillion Francis – Dill The Noise’

Friday March 28th

Chance the Rapper – Live Stage

Picked by Baseer Ahmad and Clayton Warwick

Chance-the-Rapper

TMN Staff Comment: You say you’re going to Ultra to only listen to beats? Don’t limit yourself. A break in the bass will be welcomed, and who better to give you said break than Chi-Town native, Chance the Rapper?

’Childish Gambino: They Dont Like Me (ft. Chance the Rapper)’
’Lil Wayne – You Song Ft Chance The Rapper (Dedication 5)’
’Chance The Rapper – Brain Cells Live (5day)’

Friday March 28th

The Glitch Mob – Worldwide Stage

Picked by Rachel Haroldson

Glitch-Mob-Love-Death-Immortality

TMN Staff Comment: This is a no brainer. Glitch Mob absolutely throws down with live performances, from the insane stage set-ups to the energy of the group, you can just see that these guys have a passion for performing and love giving the audience an unforgettable show.

’Nalepa – Monday (The Glitch Mob Remix)’
’A Dream Within a Dream – DRINK THE SEA’
’The Glitch Mob – We Can Make The World Stop’

[NEW] Chance The Rapper – Save Yourself First

Chance The Rapper
Save Yourself First (Social Experiment original vs.)

Chance The Rapper and James Blake surprised us all last year when they teamed up for a hip-hop infused remix of Blake’s “Life Round Here.”  Now that the pair are rooming together, the Windy City native has decided to release the verse that didn’t make the final cut. This version is far more subdued than the one that first saw the light of day, and plays closer to the tone of the Overgrown original. While the uptempo nature of the previous remix almost made it sound like a celebration of life, this tune is far more heartfelt and reflective, allowing Chance to show off his vocal chops and really dig deeper into what life around the streets of Chicago really means to him.

Chances are this won’t be featured on any projects in the near future, but given the frenzy with which the young emcee has returned in the last few weeks, you’ve gotta think an announcement of some sort is on its way soon.
