[Multi-Genre] F.O.O.L – Knight EP

When F.O.O.L drops something, you listen. When it’s dropped on Monstercat, like his Knight EP, you should be even more eager to lend your ears to what the Swede created. His four tracks range in genres from electro, to dubstep, then he brings down the BPMs to the midtempo range to close things out.

F.O.O.L comes on strong with the explosive “Bounty Hunter” that straight shreds for an electro house track. Few tracks of this nature and quality have been released in a long, long time. Next, the title track brings the fire in a similar manner with a complex arrangement that keeps the energy at a high intensity. For the last half of the EP, F.O.O.L slows things down and shows off a different side of his creative abilities. “Fairytaler” is a dreamy dubstep tune and “Distorted Reality” is genre-defying song that is pretty vibey for a Euro bass track. If you would like to purchase the EP, you can do so on iTunes.

[Future Bass] Savoy & Sound Remedy – Leaving You (feat. Jojee)

Savoy & Sound Remedy
Leaving You (feat. Jojee)

“Leaving You” has got to be one of the biggest Monstercat releases to date. Through the collaborative efforts of Savoy and Sound Remedy, a clean future bass production was born. Was that enough? Sure, it could have been, but the act’s enlisted Jojee to provide the toppings to their delicious musical treat. When a track can pretty instantly conjure up an emotional response, you know you have something special on your hands and “Leaving You” does just that. As huge fans of Savoy and Sound Remedy, we were ecstatic when it was announced they were collaborating. We were not disappointed, and I don’t think anybody else has been either. If you’d like to support the song, you can do so by purchasing it for yourself on iTunes.

Pegboard Nerds Talk Monstercat, Collaborations, and Paul McCartney [TMN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

Recently, TMN was granted the privilege to talk to the whimsical personalities of Alexander Odden and Michael Parsberg, the dynamic duo behind Pegboard Nerds. Before kicking off two major releases with Monstercat–Bring The Madness: The Remixes EP and their feature on Monstercat’s 021 Perspective Compilation–we had a chance to sit down with them in NYC’s Webster Hall right before they threw down a massive set.

Excision & Pegboard Nerds
Bring The Madness (Ft. Mayor Apeshit)

TMN: How’s it feel to be playing at Webster Hall in NYC? This is your second time back right?

Alex: Being back at Webster Hall feels fuckin’ awesome. It’s kinda intimidating too you know because it’s such a stable trademark of New York so you gotta be on point and deliver.

Michael: Same.

Alex: (Laughs) You can’t say same!

TMN: Best response yet. How did you guys first get involved with Monstercat and how do you feel about the future of the label?

Michael: Well it started back in 2012, early, early twelve. A friend from Australia actually pitched one of our songs to Monstercat because they were needing a track for one of their compilations and it kinda just went on from there. They wanted one more track, one more track, one more track, and it went on, went on, went on and all the way up. Yeah, so that’s how we started.

Then you asked about the future of the label, right? It’s difficult to predict, but I think they have a good track record and a good following, and the philosophy of the label is really good. They’re not focusing on doing the next big Hardwell, Axwell, Made-well, Big-well, Aoki-well, Sleep-well, whatever. They just wanna do great new talent.

[Electro/Tech] Karma Fields – Build The Cities (feat. Kerli)

Karma Fields
Build The Cities (feat. Kerli)

We ninjas love it when a new act jumps on the scene. When this act is being backed by Monstercat, it’s a whole different thing however. So is the case for Karma Fields, an unknown entity who has released its first original single called “Build The Cities.” You expect and are delivered a unique sound, with Kerli providing top quality vocals as she always does. Karma Fields constructed a piece that’s in between electro and tech house. It has a dark edge to it that makes things a bit eery, which fits in with the whole mysterious notion. We cannot wait to see how this act is further unraveled, as this first track already had a double premiere from Billboard and This Song Is Sick. “Build The Cities” is one of the cleanest tracks of recent times, so have it and if you find it to your liking, go on and support it on iTunes.

[Trap] Rogue – Rattlesnake

Rogue
Rattlesnake

Holy hell did Rogue just blow the roof off the traphouse with his latest Monstercat original, “Rattlesnake.” The English producer has shown us he can handle any genre, and this time trap takes the Rogue heat. Throwing the term anthem around would be a safe thing to do with this song, because there’s no denying it has capacity to cause a crowd to partake in a whole lot of ruckus. “Rattlesnake” is not something to be taken lightly. I’ve been listening to trap for quite a while now, and this is one of those tracks that sticks out in my mind as someone doing something really interesting with the genre. You can always trust Rogue to keep things dope. If you would like to purchase the tune, you can do so here.

[Electronic] Haywyre – Insight

Haywyre
Insight

It’s crazy to think that there are people who still question the legitimacy of electronic artists as musicians. Vancouver producer Haywyre is just one of many to disprove the closed-minded with lush, complex sonic arrangements and a clear understanding of musical composition. His latest Monstercat-released track, “Insight,” proves as a perfect introduction to his work melding gorgeous piano melodies with heavier elements of bass music for a genre-bending journey. Starting with a playful, jazzy vibe, the song quickly builds into a bass-filled breakdown before dropping into a keyboard solo for the ages that progresses back into the massive chorus. To go along with the song, Haywyre put out an epic video of himself performing the song, which bodes well for his upcoming 9-date US Two Fold Tour.
