[TMN Premiere] PACES – Work Me Out (Moonbase Commander Remix)

Paces
Work Me Out [ft. Rye Rye] (Moonbase Commander Remix)

Sydney based, genre-skirting producer Moonbase Commander seemingly bubbled up out of the ether with a clearly defined and polished sound on his collab with Cakes Da Killa for their 2015 single “Serve it Up”, which received quite the reputable slate of critical support when it first made the rounds. In the time since, the Australian artist’s been continuously honing that sound, with the recent release of the Southpaw EP on October Records, which only seemed to elevate the collective appetites of his listeners. So, when the Commander’s latest tune floated our way in the form of a remix for fellow TMN regulars PACES and their Rye Rye featuring single “Work Me Out”, we were like giddy cheerleaders before a pep rally.

On his latest record, Moonbase Commander trots out a hypnotically knocking kick-drum, fueled by alchemistic pads, before delving into a heap of two-step drum patterning which holds up Rye Rye’s flitty cypher as if it were resting on a bed of anthracite storm clouds. MBC’s bass-first soundscape toys with stadium-trap sized bass swells, gigantic drums and loopy synths; all pulled off with the confident swagger of an underground beatsmith and grace of an established veteran. Quite appetizing stuff really. Moonbase Commander’s remix comes as part of etcetc music‘s official remix package which is out this Friday (preorder on iTunes here). Just try not to get your lean on too hard and throw out your back to this one, and enjoy Moonbase Commander’s “Work Me Out” remix before anyone else above.

[Future Funk] Willdabeast x SwAy – Crossing Borders EP

Super Best Records just put out a gem of a project with the collaborative Crossing Borders EP. Created by duo’s Willdabeast and SwAy, this three track project is a collection of future funk records that revolve around the concept of love. There are a ton of songs about relationships, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find an EP this cool about it, especially within the glitch bass realm.

Willdabeast and SwAy’s sound fit together like a hand in a glove, it just works. Throw some sweet vocals on the tracks from Brittany Littke and Sinclair Hucke, and you have yourself something extra spectacular. All three tracks are magnificent, bringing a slightly different mood to the table; even within the productions the songs ebb and flow through different emotions and sounds. Crossing Borders starts off strong with “Cuz I Need You Baby,” then moves to the cerebral “On My Mind,” and finishes off with perhaps the best record on the EP, “Peace Offering.” Lastly, Willdabeast and SwAy released this one for free, so get to downloading!

’SwAy x Willdabeast – Cuz I Need You Baby (ft. Brittany Littke)’
’SwAy x Willdabeast – On My Mind (ft. Sinclair Hucke)’

[Event Preview] Red Bull Sound Select Denver Presents: SANGO w/ SPZRKT & CRL CRRLL @ Cervantes Ballroom – 3/31

It’s no secret that we’ve grown very close with and fond of our friends at Red Bull Sound Select. Truly one of the few major corporations involved in music putting their influence to good use, the amazing curators, thinkers, and artists involved with RBSS have always had their ears to the streets towards burgeoning artists across a plethora of genres; inciting within us Ninjas a need to see each and every one of their eclectic showcases near our respective hometowns. In the past few years alone in this writer’s fair (and Superbowl defending champion) city of Denver, we’ve been privy to some of our favorite acts including The Internet, (the artists formerly known as) Viet Cong, Shigeto & Cloud Nothings; and with that, we’ve already come up on another tastefully crafted night of music provided by the RBSS crew. We’ve been excited as ever since first hearing rumblings about this one a while back, and finally on 3/31, Seattle based producer SANGO will make his way to the Mile High City to headline a night of top-to-bottom heat, which will also see performances from SPZRKT (Spazzy Rocket), and CRL CRRLL (Carl Carrell).

In anticipation of the next Denver stop for Red Bull Sound Select, we’ve put together a mini-playlist featuring selections from each artist on the night’s bill. As with every RBSS show, an early RSVP will get you in for the measly price of $3, so hop to it here and get there early to guarantee your spot. We’ll see you on the floor.

’SANGO – F.L.O.R’

[Electro/Trap] Kygo – Stole The Show (iSHi Remix)

Kygo Feat. Parson James
Stole The Show (iSHi Remix)

As this writer pens this post from a wintery wasteland in Denver today, I couldn’t help but feel the bounce from Stockholm’s iSHi. Kygo’s original track “Stole The Show” has already made the viral rounds with its standard chart-topping Tropical-House gleam, but on his latest revision, iSHi rides an inverse wave and flips it into his own gritty blend of larger than life electro sounds and hip-hop infused cadence. Quickly entrenching himself in the minds of dance fans worldwide behind anthems like his Pusha T. featuring “Push It”, it’s clear to see why as iSHi manages to tastefully craft a tune that is completely his own brand of wobbly, boisterous dance music, while pitching out the vocals and keeping intact the perfect amount of original stem work so as not to alienate those Kygo diehards either. Step up your Tuesday for a moment with iSHi’s “Stole The Show” remix above.
