[Electronic] Culprate – Unity Project, Pt. 3

Culprate has been flexing hard with his latest string of EPs that he’s dubbed the Unity Project. Two were released and now the third is here with another batch of collaborators including Protostar, Aether and many more. As with the other two EPs, this carries a conceptual vibe throughout for a cohesive release from start to finish.

Coming in at six tracks it is equal in length as the other two releases. With it Culprate and friends bring an ethereal landscape to life with various tones and textures that piece together for what may be the best part of this series yet. They really did something different with this one and we’re loving it in the dojo. Looking to support the project and grab a copy for yourself? Head over to Bandcamp to do so!

’Culprate & Quok – Aqueous’
’Culprate & Keota Ft. Sophie Meiers – Mechanic Heartbeat’
’Culprate & Protostar – Duality’
’Culprate & Bloom – Aurora’
’Culprate & Frequent – Drifting’
’Culprate & Aether – Flora’

[Bass] Fox Stevenson – For Fox Sake EP

Fox Stevenson has long been regarded as one bass music’s best. Instead of riding his success out with minimal effort the producer has continued to expand on his impressive catalog with even more great records. His latest is the EP, For Fox Sake, that came out on Disciple. With three originals and a D&B mix of one of the songs, this EP has all the great Fox signatures and a whole lot more.

For Fox Sake may be our favorite release of his to date. Things fire up quickly with “The Heat” and from there it’s tough to not just stick it on repeat. However, once you move to “Miss You” you things get even heavier. The motif continues with “Gunshot Sonata” that builds upon the last track’s weight. Lastly, we’re left with a drum & bass remix of “Miss You” that acts as a nice change of pace for the project. Overall this one is top notch. You’ll want to grab a copy of it for yourself.

FWLR & JELO – Birth Of The Anti Hero [TMN Premiere]

Let’s jump right into a heavy premiere from the collaborators FWLR and JELO. Their song “Birth Of The Anti Hero” is taking over the dojo alongside its remix counterpart in this premiere. Released on Bishop Bloc Records, this one two punch of bass is only for those who like to get a bit rough.

The grinding bass and European electro sound that “Birth Of The Anti Hero” expresses is making a comeback, especially within the states. It may be just at its beginning, but the comeback will continue as long as acts churn out records like this one. It’s dirty, it’s mean and it’s incredibly intoxicating with its fervor. With the remix we get some added vocal elements that make for a nice touch as a flip for the original. Together they’re just what you need to re-enact your own warehouse party! If you’d like to grab the tracks, Beatport has you covered.

[Electronic] Dead Battery – Seeing Red EP

When I sit down to listen to music I don’t generally go for the harder, darker side of things, but I couldn’t help but to enjoy Dead Battery‘s new EP. Seeing Red is a dynamic concept EP that was released on Kannibalen Records this week with six distinct singles.

Dead Battery doesn’t go for the usual sounds you’d expect from a bass producer. Instead he does his own thing and focuses in on great songwriting to elevate his work. He has his own style that he blends in with drum & bass, electro and dubstep throughout the album, but it’s not like anything I’ve heard before. It stuck out to me and I hope it does the same for you. Get a copy of the EP today.

’Dead Battery – All I See Is Red’
’Dead Battery – Imperial Red’
’Dead Battery – Indian Red’
’Dead Battery – Coral Red’
’Dead Battery – Dark Red’
’Dead Battery – Blood Red’
