[Indie Eletronic] Empire Of The Sun – We Are The People (Ardency Remix)

Empire Of The Sun
We Are The People (Ardency Remix)

Following the success of “Foxfire”, the creative duo Ardency strike once again with another jaw dropper. Reworking Empire of the Sun‘s “We Are The People”, the two musicians definitely worked their magic and put a spin on the popular anthem. The tune is suited with a lo-fi 80’s disco approach fused with a chillwave sound. The original vocals are kept to go with the indie vibe of the track. The addictive touch resembles the sound of Neon Indian while adding an adrenaline-infused bassline to top it off.

Per usual, Ardency outdid themselves with this release. We are very excited to see what other tricks they got up their sleeves. Make sure to grab a free download if you dig the track!

[Event Review] CRSSD Festival – San Diego, 3/14-15

DSC_8721

As festival season is upon us, many festival go-ers are itching to go to Coachella, especially when talking about the perfect California weather. Goldenvoice, hosts of Coachella, and FNGRS CRSSD have teamed up to create CRSSD Festival, a solution for those who can’t make it to the more high-profile festivals but still want to get a taste of the all-around chill California vibe. With that said, CRSSD festival was the perfect portrayal of sunny San Diego and what it represents.

The first ever CRSSD fest took place in the Waterfront Park from March 14 and 15, and featured a lineup with big names like Chromeo, Odesza, Flight Facilities and Empire of the Sun. While these unique electronic acts headlined the main stage a.k.a “Ocean View Live”, what stuck out the most to us was “The Palms” stage, which was decorated to fit a more laid-back and tropical vibe. Ranging from nu-disco to tropical house, the stage features some of the frontrunners of the dance scene, including names like Bakermat, Thomas Jack, Bixel Boys, Giraffage and Kaytranada. The middle stage, which was named “City Steps”, featured some heavyhitting house acts that span from future bass to G-House, notably Amtrac, Tensnake, James Murphy and Simian Mobile Disco.

’Giraffage – Hello’

Being that it was a debut festival, CRSSD fest did a phenomenal job of planning and set up. With KCRW Music Director Jason Bentley hosting the festival and filling in between sets with the crowd’s favorite music, there was never a dull moment at the park. Unlike some other major festivals, the Waterfront Park was the perfect size venue for CRSSD fest. The three stages were all easily reachable from one end to another, without overshadowing each other.

Now onto the stars of the show. The best acts on Saturday were undoubtedly Kaytranada and Giraffage. With back to back sets at “The Palms” stage, the two talented artists brought the house down with their immensely high energy performances. From the future bounce mastermind to the quirky creative genius, the two spun tune after tune that got the crowd going nuts. Empire of the Sun also put out an epic performance with their signature glamorous set up with stage dancers. There was no better way to close out the night after a long day of sweating and dancing. [Electronic] Empire Of The Sun – Wandering Star

Empire Of The Sun
Wandering Star (Dumb and Dumber To Official Soundtrack)

Well, this was a little unexpected. Who could have foreseen Empire Of The Sun creating original material for the Dumb and Dumber To soundtrack? Though this track has been out for nearly a month, it somehow slipped past our radars until the band uploaded it to their SoundCloud page last night (forgive us for not paying much attention to that film’s music lineup). Like many of their memorable releases, “Wandering Star” makes for an unforgettable ride, full of magical synths and rhythmic kickdrums that’ll instantly get your toes tapping. It’s as addicting a listen as we’ve heard in awhile, and is bound to be a staple in our playlists well into 2015.

[ULTRA 2014 Schedule Recommendation] TMN’s Must See Guide to Ultra (Miami 3/28 – 3/30)

1239423_10152109764737739_1828179057_n

Ahh. The time is finally here. All winter long we’ve been angrily looking at the calendar, not-so-patiently awaiting the start of festival season here in the states. To kick things off in 2014, we’re obviously overwhelmingly excited for what Ultra 2014 is bringing to the table.

As you would guess, this year’s line up is stacked, as usual. There’s a veritable pantheon of EDM legends, coupled with some amazing up and coming artists as well. We traditionally like to do a full stream of everyone that’s going to be there, but this year we’re going to change it up. Instead of giving you a tiny sample of each artist who’s playing, we’re going to give you our recommendations, day by day.

Scheduling is going to be tricky, so make sure you set out a proper game plan. It might be hard to stick to after a few beverages, but take it from us – don’t miss out on seeing your favorite artist, or any of these suggestions below:

Friday March 28th

Chainsmokers – Stage 7

Picked by Bryn Carter & Clayton Warwick

TMN Staff Comment: Two handsome devils reigning from New York who can make ANY song the ultimate remix. Make sure to check out these two who will keep your feet moving and your mind spinning with their intense indie/electronic melodies.

’The Wanted – We Own The Night(The Chainsmokers Remix)’
’The Chainsmokers vs. Tove Lo – Habits’
’#SELFIE’

M.I.A. – Live Stage

Picked by Eric Gossett

mia300-790e9b19a08dbe8b6be20c05655262c4260e563f-s6-c30
TMN Staff Comment: The ever-controversial M.I.A. is definitely a “don’t miss” performance at this year’s Ultra Music Festival. The singer just released her critically-acclaimed album Matangi last year and is currently being sued by the NFL for $15 million for her performance at the Super Bowl. So if that was what they (couldn’t) show at the Super Bowl, I can only imagine how wild her uncensored stage show must be.

’BRING THE NOIZE’
’M.I.A. – Bad Girls’
’27’

Friday March 28th

12TH Planet – UMF Radio Stage

Picked by Clayton Warwick

12thplanet

TMN Staff Comment: Last year, I had the pleasure of introducing someone to trap, and did so by watching 12th Planet’s set on Sunday afternoon. This well respected, LA based producer will be throwing down a massive set full of filthy beats. If you want to get down and dirty, don’t miss this set.

’Pretty Lights
Go Down Sunshine (12th Planet Remix)’
’Smoked Out’
’12th Planet & Protohype
“Paper” on @smogrecords’

Friday March 28th

Kill The Noise – UMF Radio Stage

Picked by Michael Serratore

Kill-The-Noise-Kill-Kill-Kill-EP

TMN Staff Comment: There are plenty of players in the world of filthy bass, but no one does it quite like KTN. There’s an undeniable energy in everything he does, and that will only be taken to the next level amongst a crowd of frenzied fans

’Thumbs Up (For Rock N’ Roll) with Feed Me’
’DUCKSAUCE – NRG (Skrillex, Kill The Noise, Milo & Otis RMX)’
’Kill The Noise & Dillion Francis – Dill The Noise’

Friday March 28th

Chance the Rapper – Live Stage

Picked by Baseer Ahmad and Clayton Warwick

Chance-the-Rapper

TMN Staff Comment: You say you’re going to Ultra to only listen to beats? Don’t limit yourself. A break in the bass will be welcomed, and who better to give you said break than Chi-Town native, Chance the Rapper?

’Childish Gambino: They Dont Like Me (ft. Chance the Rapper)’
’Lil Wayne – You Song Ft Chance The Rapper (Dedication 5)’
’Chance The Rapper – Brain Cells Live (5day)’

Friday March 28th

The Glitch Mob – Worldwide Stage

Picked by Rachel Haroldson

Glitch-Mob-Love-Death-Immortality

TMN Staff Comment: This is a no brainer. Glitch Mob absolutely throws down with live performances, from the insane stage set-ups to the energy of the group, you can just see that these guys have a passion for performing and love giving the audience an unforgettable show.

’Nalepa – Monday (The Glitch Mob Remix)’
’A Dream Within a Dream – DRINK THE SEA’
’The Glitch Mob – We Can Make The World Stop’

Empire Of The Sun
Alive (Zedd Remix)

Australian duo Empire of the Sun astounded us with their comeback single, “Alive,” when it dropped last month. Now, they’ve commissioned TMN favorite, Zedd, for a brand new remix. It has all the typical ingredients of a guaranteed Zedd banger: a buzzing build up, a cascading bridge, and finally a boisterous, captivating drop. Although it’s just a preview, this might be the best two and a half minutes of music you hear all day. Make sure to look out for the full version when it drops on May 21st.
